REVERSE ENGINEERING AND CAD MODELING OF TOY DUMPER TRUCK
Objectives :
This project will involve changing the toy dumper truck into an exact 3D model to measure and record components by using various engineering measuring instruments, which include Vernier calipers, micrometers, protractors, and 3D scanners in measuring and documenting the dimensions, shapes, and relations of each component, like the body, wheels, axles, and dumper bed. These measurements will then be used to create detailed sketches and a digital 3D model, ensuring a faithful, functional replica of the toy truck. Ultimately, this project aims to combine precise engineering with creative digital design to bring the toy dumper truck to life in a new, interactive form.
Product Statements : The challenge is to accurately measure and model a toy dumper truck using engineering tools to capture its dimensions and details. The goal is to create a precise 3D digital model that replicates the truck’s components, ensuring accuracy for design or prototyping purposes.
Resources of Reversing Engineering :
Assuming the dumper truck toy is constructed using standard materials and dimensions, easily measurable by common engineering tools such as calipers and micrometers. Expected output: It should generate a reasonably accurate 3D model of all components that will represent the model in an appropriately realistic manner to use it for further design, prototyping, or manufacturing.
Description :
For our mini project in CAD, we are creating a fun and interactive Toy Truck Dumper. This toy will mimic the function of a real-life dump truck, complete with a hinged dumper bed that tilts to unload small items like balls or sand. The goal is to design a sturdy yet playful truck that not only sparks imagination but also ensures safety and durability for young users.
For this product to be made as 3D model in Catia V5 we have sketched it in as whole model sketch and individual part sketch per the following views :Top view , Side view , Back view and front view
Product Chosen : We have selected toy dumper truck as our model in which we can see the complexity of this toy Dumper truck can be solved by Reverse Engineering.
Components Of The Product : We have dismantled our model using equipment's such as screw driver , small spanner. After dismantling we were able to see all the components which were assembled together to for the model to complete.
Sketches And Measuring Methods :
In the sketches of the model we have drawn all the view of it namely Side view , Top view Front view and Back view and have written all the dimensions as per we have measured.
Measurement Methods :
To Measure all the components of the toy dumper truck accurately and create precise sketches for a 3D model, we needed a combination of engineering tools designed for both dimensional and detailed measurements. The have used following instruments for measurements :
Vernier Caliper: Ideal for measuring the external and internal dimensions of the truck's parts, like the body, wheels, and axles. It offers high precision for small parts.
Protractor: To measure angles, especially for any inclined surfaces, like the dumper bed or any angled parts.
Ruler/Measuring Tape: For quick linear measurements, especially for larger components or when measuring the overall length and width of the truck.
Thread: For measurement of the areas which are a bit difficult to measure via ruler there we have used threads as a measurement device.
