Scheduling

Scheduling Classes

The FHS PROGRAM OF STUDIES is a resource for students and parent(s) to assist with course selection, four-year course planning, and other academic services offered through Fairmont High School.

Counselors will assist students with scheduling courses and completing graduation plans each year. During the beginning of spring semester, counselors will meet with all of their students to complete course requests for the following school year. The following tabs are excellent resources for you as you plan your school year.

How Should I Schedule?:

You should aim to schedule classes that are a good FIT for you by seeking classes that:

  • Challenge you

  • Interest you

  • Match your strengths

Academically challenging yourself can lead you to enjoy your class and inspire you to reach your aspirations. While there is no set path for academic success, taking rigorous courses can provide many benefits. For instance, colleges and universities value rigor, and oftentimes seeing that you've challenged yourself by taking rigorous courses can positively impact your application to their institution. Gather the information and thoughtfully consider whether a course is a good fit based on your interests and strengths.

Find your fit by asking yourself:

  • Am I interested in this subject?

  • Is this a subject with which I have experienced previous success?

  • Will I be able to fully commit the time and effort required to be successful?

  • Taking account of all of my academic and extracurricular commitments, can I be successful in the course?

If you can honestly answer yes to these questions, then the course is likely a good choice. If you cannot honestly answer yes to these questions, then you should:

  • Rethink your choice

  • Look at other course options

  • Talk to a teacher, counselor, and/or your parents for advice or guidance.
