College Credit Options

Advanced Placement (AP): college-level courses and exams that give high school students the opportunity to receive credit and/or advanced placement in college. Students enrolling in AP courses should expect to develop analytical reasoning skills and study the subject matter in great depth. Approval for enrolling will be based on student ability, past performance, teacher recommendation, and prerequisite courses. Students are required to take the AP exam in the spring for the possibility of earning college credit. Based on the score of the exam, college credit may be earned. See the Advanced Studies section for more information on AP classes.

College Credit Plus (formerly Post-secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) & Dual Enrollment (DE): CCP replaces Ohio's Post-Secondary Enrollment Options program (PSEO) and all alternative dual enrollment programs previously governed by Ohio Revised Code Chapter 3365. Course work becomes a permanent record on the student's transcript, as well as the high school transcript. See CCP Overview section for more information on CCP.

  • Eligibility: All public districts and public institutions of higher education (IHE) must allow college-ready students, grades 7-12, who qualify for college admission to participate. Students may enroll in no more than 30 credits per academic year.

International Baccalaureate (IB): Students electing to take individual IB classes instead of pursuing the Diploma Program requirements receive course credit for successfully completing each course that they take. Many colleges grant college credit (similar to AP credit), but it is entirely based off of IB test scores. The amount of college credit given for the program rests entirely with each individual university. Neither Fairmont High School nor the IB Organization has any input into those university policies regarding credits or placement for IB high school work. See the Advanced Studies section for more information on IB classes.
