Philosophy: I am so thrilled to be at Kettering Fairmont and supporting our students to grow not only academically but personally as well. I believe that building relationships lays out the foundation for success. As a school counselor, we play an important role in supporting and empowering students to achieve success in and outside of the classroom. I believe that students will gain the most benefits when all important stakeholders are involved to support the needs of students and address any obstacles that may be impeding the learning process.

Mrs. Tara Shirk

Fairmont Position: 10th Grade Counselor serving East and Central unit students (A-K).

Philosophy:  I am honored to be a part of a community that cares deeply about its students’ well-being academically, socially, and personally. I believe it is essential that I advocate for my students. More importantly, my objective is to instill in them the tools and free thinking necessary to make their own sound judgments. The greatest reward is building relationships with students and seeing them grow by embracing what makes them unique. It is important that I celebrate diversity, provide roads to success and create a safe environment in which students feel comfortable approaching me.

Mr. Matt Kesner

Fairmont Position: 10th Grade Counselor serving West and South unit students (L-Z).

Phone Number:  499-1618

Education:

Philosophy:  I love being a part of the amazing staff and community at Fairmont. One of my most favorite parts of being a school counselor is helping guide students in developing a plan to achieve their goals. Seeing students reach their goals is a great privilege.  I believe all students have the potential to be and to do whatever they set their minds. I love helping students develop goals to accomplish all of the amazing things their optimistic minds come up with. My role is to help guide students in making a plan to achieve their goals. I do this, not by telling them what to do, but by working alongside them, encouraging and guiding them to discover, on their own, what their goals will require. My role is like the rudder on a ship. I am not responsible to be the engine moving the ship, my role is more to be the rudder; slightly nudging the whole ship in different directions as needed.

Mr. Victor Colón

Philosophy:  My philosophy as a counselor is to be enthusiastic about helping students, and advocating for their success. By collaborating with parents and other school professionals, I aim to be an anchor for students when they are in need of support and resources. In addition, I hope to provide a safe space where students feel welcome and accepted every time they come to talk with me about whatever they may be going through at this point in their lives.

Philosophy:  As a school counselor, my purpose is to help students learn about themselves, as well as guide them throughout their high school career in becoming successful students while accomplishing their goals. I work alongside administrators, teachers, parents, and the community to ensure that all students will be successful in their academic achievement, educational planning, career exploration and personal and social development. Being apart of the Kettering Fairmont family has brought me tremendous joy and allows me to utilize my skills as a school counselor and life long learner in this community.
