October 7-October 11
Dear FES Families,
We have kicked off October with a BANG! We've enjoyed Homecoming parade fun, 4th grade field trip, college colors day, the Dallas Mavs assembly, and our yearbook picture day, all of which showcased the Falcon spirit! It is weeks like this when we get to see our students shine in different lights and join as a community to enhance their learning through new opportunities, enriching experiences and fun together!
This week, we also held our first Campus Educational Improvement Committee Meeting (CEIC) where stakeholders of parents and staff provided input on our campus' progress toward the district's 5 over 5 goals. We also reviewed our Campus Improvement Plan which will be reviewed and approved by the Keller ISD School Board later this month. Thank you to all of our CEIC members for your dedication and contribution to our school's continuous improvement process!
I have loved walking around the building and see our teachers meeting with our parents for our fall conferences; collaborating in partnership to support our students, share in their successes and work to build plans for their success this year! We are grateful for parents joining in to share in these critical conversations, celebrations, and discussions of your child's learning and look forward to continuing that work together throughout this year. There are several more of you who will be joining us during the upcoming week and throughout the day on October 11th, when teachers are here but students will kick off their fall break. As the year progresses, please continue to reach out with any questions, concerns, or any input regarding your child's needs or things at home that may impact their performance such as sickness, family circumstances, specific needs, feelings, etc.)! We have a wonderful team here to help your child and to ensure that we have all the supports necessary for their success!
Next week, the fun continues:. Our 3rd grade students will be going on their first field trip of the year, we will have our second Red Ribbon Spirit Day on Thursday (Superheroes) and we will also end the week with our PTA Fall Carnival and Silent auction before we close up shop for our much anticipated Fall break (October 14-18). We hope to see you here on Thursday night for an evening of family fun!
Have a wonderful week!
In Falcon Spirit!

We celebrated what makes us special and unique! We wore our polka dots and created our very own dots for our International Dot Day Wall, writing what makes us unique and special!
Thank you, PTA, and to all of our families who came and rode or joined along the parade route! What a showcase of Keller Tribal Spirit!
Students learned all about the importance of making healthy and smart choices with Champ, Joe, Mavs Man and the Mavs team with some fun music, tricks, and give aways!
Congratulations to Mrs. McLean and Mrs. Sargent for being selected by your colleagues as our golden egg recipients as the staff members who stand out as extraordinary staff members! We are grateful for their contributions to our staff and students!

⭕Red Ribbon Month- Life is a Movie- Live Drug Free
Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign that focuses on educating youth about substance abuse prevention. At Florence we celebrate Red Ribbon Month so we can spread the activities out for our theme days. At the elementary level, the lessons focus on making healthy choices for our bodies. For example, healthy food, exercise and positive peer relationships. For parents, the conversation about safe and unsafe items for kids can start with conversations about common household products that are poisonous for human consumption, such as cleaning products, detergents, etc. Feel free to contact Mrs. Jones if you have any questions.
In addition to the regular lunch, the cafeteria will be selling snack items every Wednesday, starting on October 9th, until winter break.
Kinder and 1st grade students will have their choice of snack in the lunch count. 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students may choose snacks as they go through the line, and those who bring their lunch may join the line to purchase snack items, as well.
If you DO NOT wish for your student to have the option to purchase snacks, please log onto your Sodexo account and select the preference to NOT purchase snacks which will alert the cafeteria system. If you do want your child to purchase snacks, please make sure that students have money in their account to purchase snacks. Please also communicate your expectations to your child.
If you arrive before 7:25 and pull into the drop off line on the K-1-2 side (north parking lot), please leave room for our busses to come in and drop off first. We ask that you would please wait in the driveway parallel to Harrel just behind the light poles before coming around the curve. At 7:25, you are welcomed to pull up into the curved area for drop-off. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring an efficient drop off!
While we appreciate a phone call letting us know your child is absent, with the updated Attendance procedures, we will now request a written explanation of absences for each day they were absent.
This may be an email sent to Tyler.Lamon@kellerisd.net or a written note that is sent upon your child's return. An absence is considered to be a partial absence any time that a student leaves early or arrives later than the first 15 minutes of the day and parents may utilze a parent excuse for these if there is not documentation. Please see the Keller ISD Attendance 101 for more information. https://www.kellerisd.net/students-families/resources/students-families-resources/attendance-truancy
More information to come, but save the date- our whole school parade will take place during the morning of November 1st, so start thinking of your favorite story and a costume to wear! We will share more information and parade logistics for parent arrival soon!
Storybook Character Costumes
On November 1st, students are invited to dress up like a favorite character or something related to a favorite book! Students may wear their costume for the duration of the school day, so please ensure that they are able to sit, move, and participate in the day while wearing their costume. We ask that all costumes be school appropriate and follow general KISD student dress guidelines and pay attention to the following:
No scary, gory, or violent costumes or masks
No weapons or pretend/toy weapons including swords, guns, knives, num-chuks, etc.
No inflatable costumes
Students must be able to move independently while wearing their costume and should be able to navigate and function in a regular classroom setting and hallways.

Sodexo has received several concerns regarding the printed menu reflecting options which are either substituted or changed completely on the serving line due to product unavailability or use of State provided commodity items. While Sodexo strives to minimize the number of changes to the menu, they are still at the mercy of product manufacture shortages and logistical challenges from all providers which places a burden on the program to provide the menu as previously planned.
To improve the communication of menu changes Sodexo has recently launched new and improved online menus for Keller ISD through Nutrislice at https://kellerisd.nutrislice.com/menus-eula .
This change will provide students, staff and families the most up-to-date printable and digital menus that are reflective of any changes that need to be made to the menus.
Did you hear? There are FIVE choices for lunch each day this year!
https://kellerisd.sodexomyway.com/
What time is breakfast? Breakfast will begin at 7:25. The line will close at 7:50 for students to be in class at 7:55.
What is offered? This school year Sodexo will be offering 3 hot side options and 2 cold side options.
How do I add money to my child’s cafeteria account? You may place money on your child's lunch account by setting up an account for them on School Cafe. The link is below and you will need your student's ID # to do so.
