November 11 - November 15
Dear FES Families,
We have had a wonderful 4 day week at Florence! I hope that your family was able to enjoy some time during our Tuesday workday, where our teachers and staff were productive and enjoyed catching up and getting ahead on planning for the upcoming weeks of our 2nd Nine Weeks while working from the location of their choice as many schools in our district were used as polling locations.
This week, we were visited by several principals from around the district who came to see the amazing things happening in our mathematics classrooms! I am proud of the hard work of our students, who are all mathematicians, solving, and discussing their learning together. While we are focusing on the mathematical process and fluency at school, please continue to support your child at home, reinforcing their math fluency and knowledge of their basic facts.
November always provides a special time of gratitude and we are excited to share in some time together showing our appreciation for our Florence Heroes! Today, our PTA has been hard at work showcasing the art, letters, and appreciation crafts that our students have created as we prepare for our Veterans Day Program and reception on Monday! We look forward to honoring our veterans and first responders in this special way. We are also excited to welcome our FES families for our Thanksgiving feast and what a special time that will be! Be sure to RSVP in the form below.
In Falcon Spirit,
Courtney Brandel
Principal, Florence Elementary School
In math, our 2nd grade students are working on representing and solving addition and subtraction problems using a variety of strategies. Yesterday, we were visited by the principals from Eagle Ridge Elementary, Shady Grove Elementary, and Bette Perot Elementary who came to see the wonderful ways in which teachers are teaching and students are learning at Florence Elementary School! They were impressed by the collaboration, mathematical dialogue and engagement of our students as they used bar models, standard algorithm, repeated addition, number charts, number lines, base 10 blocks, acting and more to understand and solve story problems! Great job, 2nd grade!
Mrs. Sustaita has been helping our students learn about some of our digital research tools that we have available including Britannica online. Students practiced researching and using this additional tool as a part of their digital texts lesson this week. Ask your child an interesting fact that they learned as they researched during library time this week!
We love celebrating the tradition of excellence at FES! As a part of that process, we will be recognizing our amazing staff members and would like your help.
Please share the name and information of the staff member you feel who is deserving of recognition along with some words that share the reason they are being recognized. Please note, your response with be shared with the staff member and may be featured in our publications/ social media and any student names that are included may be omitted for confidentiality.
Fill out a shout out on this Staff Shout Out Form to help us celebrate excellence among our FES teachers and staff!

Have a great day!
Our 3rd and 4th grade students will be taking the STAAR Interim test on November 12 (RLA) and 14 (Math). This is a practice STAAR test and will provide our students with an opportunity to interact with an experience STAAR type questions. The interim is much shorter than the typical test and does not include the written response component. It also provides us with a snapshot to measure our students' abilities to apply what they have learned so far this year and will identify areas we need to continue to reinforce to ensure that our students are learning and growing well.
As we would on a regular testing day, please be sure that your child has a good night's sleep, a nutritious breakfast, and comes to school ready to do their best on this practice test.
On these days, students will still attend their co-curr, recess, and lunch classes and all of the classes that take place after the class is finished testing. Parents are still able to visit for lunches on the interim days.
We can't wait to celebrate Thanksgiving as a Falcon Family on November 22nd during student lunch times and are excited to have our Falcon families join in on the celebration meal and sharing in gratitude together!

Sodexo has received several concerns regarding the printed menu reflecting options which are either substituted or changed completely on the serving line due to product unavailability or use of State provided commodity items. While Sodexo strives to minimize the number of changes to the menu, they are still at the mercy of product manufacture shortages and logistical challenges from all providers which places a burden on the program to provide the menu as previously planned.
To improve the communication of menu changes Sodexo has recently launched new and improved online menus for Keller ISD through Nutrislice at https://kellerisd.nutrislice.com/menus-eula .
This change will provide students, staff and families the most up-to-date printable and digital menus that are reflective of any changes that need to be made to the menus.
Did you hear? There are FIVE choices for lunch each day this year!
https://kellerisd.sodexomyway.com/

What is offered? This school year Sodexo will be offering 3 hot side options and 2 cold side options.
How do I add money to my child’s cafeteria account? You may place money on your child's lunch account by setting up an account for them on School Cafe. The link is below and you will need your student's ID # to do so.
