November 4 - November 8
Daylight Savings is ending soon, with clocks set to "fall back" one hour on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 at 2 a.m. While this shift offers an extra hour of sleep, it also marks the start of shorter days and less evening daylight.
Did you know? Fun Fact: Daylight Savings was introduced in Germany in 1916 during WWI as an energy saving and full saving measure. The U.S. followed suit, adopting it in 1918. In 1966 The Uniform Time Act standardized DST in the United States, establishing start and end dates and regulating a yearly time change.
Dear FES Families,
What fun we had today celebrating our favorite storybook characters! I loved seeing our students' excitement and hearing about their favorite stories as I visited classes today. We had a wonderful celebration with our Falcon Family during our outdoor parade and are grateful to have had the opportunity to share in our love of reading together. Our teachers, as always, went all out, with grade level team costumes, exemplifying their passion for not only reading, but also for inspiring and sharing in the fun with our students!
As a reminder, we will not have school on Tuesday, November 5th, as that is a teacher workday and Election Day and 15 of the Keller ISD campuses are used as polling locations.
In the upcoming weeks, we will be continuing to focus on our campus improvement goal of supporting our students in solving one and two step word problems. This math unit across grade levels, in particular, focuses on supporting students in utilizing different strategies to solve problems. We encourage families to continue to build fact fluency at home through practicing basic facts, skip counting in the car (by 2's, by 3's, etc.) and by completing dreambox lessons. As I have been working with our teachers to review student writing samples, I am continually impressed already by the growth we have seen in students' overall writing skills and ability to convey their thoughts and responses to text! We will be continuing to build upon our students' writing skills, reinforcing the use of a capital letter and punctuation at the end of a sentence across all grade levels.
We are grateful for your ongoing support, involvement, and partnership in your child's learning! Thank you, FES families!
In Falcon Spirit,
Courtney Brandel
Principal, Florence Elementary School

Get ready for Keller ISD's College Spirit Day on Wednesday, November 6! Show your school pride by wearing gear from your alma mater or your dream school, and let’s celebrate the exciting educational opportunities that await KISD students!
While we appreciate a phone call letting us know your child is absent, with the updated Attendance procedures, we will now request a written explanation of absences for each day they were absent.
This may be an email sent to Tyler.Lamon@kellerisd.net or a written note that is sent upon your child's return. An absence is considered to be a partial absence any time that a student leaves early or arrives later than the first 15 minutes of the day and parents may utilze a parent excuse for these if there is not documentation. Please see the Keller ISD Attendance 101 for more information. https://www.kellerisd.net/students-families/resources/students-families-resources/attendance-truancy

Sodexo has received several concerns regarding the printed menu reflecting options which are either substituted or changed completely on the serving line due to product unavailability or use of State provided commodity items. While Sodexo strives to minimize the number of changes to the menu, they are still at the mercy of product manufacture shortages and logistical challenges from all providers which places a burden on the program to provide the menu as previously planned.
To improve the communication of menu changes Sodexo has recently launched new and improved online menus for Keller ISD through Nutrislice at https://kellerisd.nutrislice.com/menus-eula .
This change will provide students, staff and families the most up-to-date printable and digital menus that are reflective of any changes that need to be made to the menus.
