September 30-October 4
Dear FES Families,
Happy Friday, Falcon family! It feels like September has gone by just as quickly as it arrived and we are wrapping up our first nine weeks of school in the next couple of weeks and diving into the fun of October! In this upcoming month, we will be finishing summative assessments, celebrating Red Ribbon month activities, and have some of our students taking their first field trips of the year. We also look forward to parent teacher conferences and to the upcoming the fall break! Take a look at the details below, as we have some spirit days coming up, picture day next week, and a ton of fun!
This past week, we have conducted SNAP meetings, which are snapshot meetings with each teacher, our counselor, assistant princpal, and Interventionist-Mrs. Persyn, where we take a look at the performance of each student on the MAP test, look at other data points, and determine plans to support students in their indivdiual academic needs, through a process called Response to Intervention (RTI). Through these meetings, we determine the level of support needed by a student and develop plans for different levels of support (Tier 1- everyone, Tier- 2 additional small group support, or Tier 3- Targeted individualized support) in both academics and behavioral needs. I am always impressed by our teachers in these meetings, considering that even just 7 weeks in, your child's teacher knows their strengths, their learning needs, and has already implemented strategies and communication processes to support them. It is truly a team effort in supporting and ensuring the success of our students, and I can tell you that we have the BEST team of teachers who not only know our students' but love to serve them and will do whatever is needed to help them find success, wherever they are! I am excited for the implementation of the plans that have been established and we will continue to monitor and check the progress of our students as we go!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
In Falcon Spirit!

Principal, Florence Elementary School

⭕Red Ribbon Month- Life is a Movie- Live Drug Free
Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign that focuses on educating youth about substance abuse prevention. At Florence we celebrate Red Ribbon Month so we can spread the activities out for our theme days. At the elementary level, the lessons focus on making healthy choices for our bodies. For example, healthy food, exercise and positive peer relationships. For parents, the conversation about safe and unsafe items for kids can start with conversations about common household products that are poisonous for human consumption, such as cleaning products, detergents, etc. Feel free to contact Mrs. Jones if you have any questions.
While we appreciate a phone call letting us know your child is absent, with the updated Attendance procedures, we will now request a written explanation of absences for each day they were absent.
This may be an email sent to Tyler.Lamon@kellerisd.net or a written note that is sent upon your child's return. An absence is considered to be a partial absence any time that a student leaves early or arrives later than the first 15 minutes of the day and parents may utilze a parent excuse for these if there is not documentation. Please see the Keller ISD Attendance 101 for more information. https://www.kellerisd.net/students-families/resources/students-families-resources/attendance-truancy
Picture day is coming up very soon; October 4th! Parents, you will be able view and place orders online. All orders will be shipped to your home. Be sure to smile!
More information to come, but save the date- our whole school parade will take place during the morning of November 1st, so start thinking of your favorite story and a costume to wear! We will share more information and logistics for parent arrival soon!
Storybook Character Costumes
On November 1st, students are invited to dress up like a favorite character or something related to a favorite book! Students may wear their costume for the duration of the school day, so please ensure that they are able to sit, move, and participate in the day while wearing their costume. We ask that all costumes be school appropriate and follow general KISD student dress guidelines and pay attention to the following:
No scary, gory, or violent costumes or masks
No weapons or pretend/toy weapons including swords, guns, knives, num-chuks, etc.
No inflatable costumes
Students must be able to move independently while wearing their costume and should be able to navigate and function in a regular classroom setting and hallways.
Community Storehouse is hosting a fun run at the Keller Town Hall Saturday, October 5th. Register now to participate in the fun.
Interested in showcasing your artistic talents? Last year, one of our very own students was the winner of this contest!
This year's theme "The Trinity River: Our Shared Home" invites students to explore the interconnected story of the Trinity River Basin. It’s a place where millions of Texans and a wide range of species coexist, relying on its rich resources and diverse ecosystems. Through their artwork, students can depict the vital relationships between the river, its inhabitants, and the broader environment. Our actions shape the health of this shared home, influencing the future of human communities, the well-being of the river, and plant and animal life, including those that are endangered or at risk.
The contest is open to 1st - 8th-grade students who live in or go to school in TRA Board Counties (Anderson, Chambers, Dallas, Ellis, Freestone, Henderson, Houston, Kaufman, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Navarro, Polk, San Jacinto, Tarrant, Trinity, Walker) and 1st - 8th- grade students living in or going to school in TRA customer cities outside of those counties (Flower Mound, Argyle, Northlake, Roanoke, Justin).
Winners will be chosen from each grade level, and will receive prizes and recognition! Entries will close on October 4th!
For more information, view it on the TRA website at https://trinityra.org/art

Sodexo has received several concerns regarding the printed menu reflecting options which are either substituted or changed completely on the serving line due to product unavailability or use of State provided commodity items. While Sodexo strives to minimize the number of changes to the menu, they are still at the mercy of product manufacture shortages and logistical challenges from all providers which places a burden on the program to provide the menu as previously planned.
To improve the communication of menu changes Sodexo has recently launched new and improved online menus for Keller ISD through Nutrislice at https://kellerisd.nutrislice.com/menus-eula .
This change will provide students, staff and families the most up-to-date printable and digital menus that are reflective of any changes that need to be made to the menus.
Did you hear? There are FIVE choices for lunch each day this year!
https://kellerisd.sodexomyway.com/

What is offered? This school year Sodexo will be offering 3 hot side options and 2 cold side options.
How do I add money to my child’s cafeteria account? You may place money on your child's lunch account by setting up an account for them on School Cafe. The link is below and you will need your student's ID # to do so.
