September 23-27
Dear FES Families,
What a special week it has been celebrating the love of reading with our Book Fair, and having the opportunity to share in quality time recognizing and celebrating our grandparents and the special people in the lives of our students! Florence Elementary has been abuzz with an exciting energy and the smiles radiated throughout our building this week! I personally enjoyed meeting many of our grandparents, hearing about their stories and passions. We had guests from near and far, some of whom even came from other towns, states, and countries to share in this special time with our students. What a joy it has been and what a testament to the support and loving families from which our students come!
Our students have been busy with projects, reading, writing, and math as we are heading toward the end of our first nine weeks, which is just a couple of weeks away! Please continue to check your child's Aeries account and reach out to your child's teacher with any questions or concerns you might have.
We are looking forward to some cooler weather and some more outside time for our students, so please continue to send them with a water bottle to stay hydrated. We hope you have a wonderful weekend, many of you enjoying time with family from out of town!
In Falcon Spirit!
Courtney Brandel
Principal, Florence Elementary School
Thank you to the Keller ISD Education Foundation for the donation of two wagons with seatbelts for Mrs. Brezina's classroom! The Keller ISD O.N.E. Fund
Have you heard about all the ways in which the Keller ISD Education Foundation serves the teachers and students in Keller ISD through Educator Grants and the O.N.E. Fund?
There are a few important, key differences between the O.N.E. Fund and Educator Grants:
O.N.E. Fund is for NEEDS. Educator Grants are for WANTS.
Grants focus on enhancements, innovation and creativity.
O.N.E. Fund is focused on essential need in the classroom/on a campus and functionality.
Learn more about the O.N.E. Fund here: The O.N.E. Fund - Keller ISD Education Foundation (kisdfoundation.net)
Gifts to the O.N.E. Fund can be made through our website Give Now! - Keller ISD Education Foundation (kisdfoundation.net) or through the QR code in the visuals attached.
What a pleasure it was to see all of the smiles and love that were shared at FES this week as we welcomed our Grandparents and Special Visitors to our campus! Thank you to our PTA for supporting the coordination, preparation, and operation of grandparents' day and our book fair of the event and to all of those who donated delicous desserts. It was such a wonderful time shared between our students and loved ones and we appreciate all of the support from this part of the FES family!
Our kindergarten students have been working on painting techniques in art class this week, practicing the use of the brushes, the strokes, and learning how to create pictures of different colors.
Our first grade students have been studying the art of weaving. They began by reading a story all about tapestries that are woven and learned about the loom and the materials used to weave before praticing the art of weaving with paper.

As a part of our continuous improvement process, we are seeking teachers, staff, parents, and community members to serve on the FES Campus Educational Improvement Committee (CEIC). The CEIC is an advisory group for the campus and it serves the purpose of gathering and providing feedback and input in matters of campus planning, operations, policies, and procedures. These stakeholders have been selected to participate in this year's committee and will meet 4 times this year to provide input and feedback in our improvement process. Thank you, to those members, who will be serving our campus in this capacity this year.
We have had an increase in students requesting snacks from the front office. Please continue to send your child with snacks, as our teachers allow daily snack time throughout the day at a designated time. (2 snacks are suggested for Kindergarten) As our students are growing quickly, some students have been sharing that they are increasingly hungry, and might benefit from a bit more to help sustain them with the energy they need to learn through the day!
Early Dismissals
Being present is one of the most important factors for student learning. Did you also know that aside from being important for individual students, in the state of Texas, school funding is directly tied to student attendance? If a student is not present at school, the district does not receive funding for that student on that day. In addition, late arrivals and early dismissals are considered as partial absences.
At the elementary level, attendance is officially recorded and reported to the state at 9:50 AM. This means that any student who is not here before that time will be considered absent. Likewise, any student who arrives past that time is also considered absent.
As you are planning ahead for known and routine doctor appointments, dentist appointments, and other non-emergency appointments, and family travel, please be aware of the 9:50 ADA reporting time in order to support our campus attendance and bring a doctor's note upon return. If your child is sick, by all means, please keep them home to allow them to get better. Otherwise, when possible, we encourage your child's attendance for the duration of the school day, as learning takes place from the beginning to the end of the day.
While we appreciate a phone call letting us know your child is absent, with the updated Attendance procedures, we will now request a written explanation of absences for each day they were absent. This may be an email sent to Tyler.Lamon@kellerisd.net or a written note that is sent upon your child's return. An absence is considered to be a partial absence any time that a student leaves early or arrives later than the first 15 minutes of the day and parents may utilze a parent excuse for these if there is not documentation. Please see the Keller ISD Attendance 101 for more information. https://www.kellerisd.net/students-families/resources/students-families-resources/attendance-truancy
Parents are always welcome at FES! If you are interested in volunteering, you must fill out the Keller ISD Volunteer Application. All FES visitors are required to enter at door #1, go through the front office, provide picture identification, and obtain a visitor badge before proceeding to any part of the building which must be worn in a visible area for the duration of the time on campus. Office staff will verify the visitor is a parent, guardian, or approved contact for a student.
Guests are only allowed in designated areas to minimize disruption of the learning environment and may not go throughout the building, to the playground, or classrooms.
Guests are required to exit the building through the office during school hours. We value and appreciate guests and all volunteers at FES!
Picture day is coming up very soon; October 4th! Parents, you will be able view and place orders online. All orders will be shipped to your home. Be sure to smile!

Sodexo has received several concerns regarding the printed menu reflecting options which are either substituted or changed completely on the serving line due to product unavailability or use of State provided commodity items. While Sodexo strives to minimize the number of changes to the menu, they are still at the mercy of product manufacture shortages and logistical challenges from all providers which places a burden on the program to provide the menu as previously planned.
To improve the communication of menu changes Sodexo has recently launched new and improved online menus for Keller ISD through Nutrislice at https://kellerisd.nutrislice.com/menus-eula .
This change will provide students, staff and families the most up-to-date printable and digital menus that are reflective of any changes that need to be made to the menus.
