October 21-October 25
Dear FES Families,
Can you believe we have already completed our first quarter of the school year? I am so proud of the hard work of our students and teachers over this past nine weeks. We have established a firm foundation of success for the year, and area already seeing students grow in their academic learning and in their character development. This week, we held a lockdown drill, as one of our safety practices. On Wednesday, our 3rd grade students made a splash on their field trip to the Keller Natatorium, where they learned more about water safety. We also celebrated our character award winners for the character trait of "Responsibility" today and had an assembly where each grade level showcased their spirit, with our 4th graders winning our Spirit Cup!
We hope to see you all tonight for our FES Carnival! Thank you to all of our PTA volunteers who transformed our school into a carnival wonderland today! It's going to be a blast!
As we all take the next week to enjoy and celebrate the end of the nine weeks, I wish your family safety, rest, and enjoyment! Have a wonderful Fall Break and we will see everyone back here on October 21st for our second nine weeks!
In Falcon Spirit!

⭕Red Ribbon Month- Life is a Movie- Live Drug Free
Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign that focuses on educating youth about substance abuse prevention. At Florence we celebrate Red Ribbon Month so we can spread the activities out for our theme days. At the elementary level, the lessons focus on making healthy choices for our bodies. For example, healthy food, exercise and positive peer relationships. For parents, the conversation about safe and unsafe items for kids can start with conversations about common household products that are poisonous for human consumption, such as cleaning products, detergents, etc. Feel free to contact Mrs. Jones if you have any questions.
In addition to the regular lunch, the cafeteria will be selling snack items every Wednesday, starting on October 9th, until winter break.
Kinder and 1st grade students will have their choice of snack in the lunch count. 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students may choose snacks as they go through the line, and those who bring their lunch may join the line to purchase snack items, as well.
If you DO want your child to purchase snacks, please make sure that students have money in their account to purchase snacks. Please also communicate your expectations to your child.
If you DO NOT wish for your student to have the option to purchase snacks, please log onto your Sodexo account and select the preference to NOT allow the purchase snacks which will alert the cafeteria system.
Beginning October 21, 2024, once a student's meal account reaches or exceeds a negative balance of $25, a well-balanced alternative meal will be provided at no charge to the student. Our cafeteria manager is in communication with families when there are negative balances.
For breakfast, the meal will consist of a sunbutter & jelly sandwich, fresh fruit of the day, and a student's choice of milk. For lunch, the meal will consist of a turkey & cheese sandwich, fresh fruit of the day, and a student's choice of milk. For households, who have completed the necessary district documentation for students with special dietary restrictions, those needs will be met when and if given the alternative meal. Students are not allowed to charge al a carte, snacks, drinks, extras, and/or second meals if they do not have enough money for those items at the time of service.
If you would like more information, this information was shared at the September 26 Board Meeting (2:35:30), and is posted to the Keller ISD Child Nutrition website.
If you arrive before 7:25 and pull into the drop off line on the K-1-2 side (north parking lot), please leave room for our busses to come in and drop off first. We ask that you would please wait in the driveway parallel to Harrel just behind the light poles before coming around the curve. At 7:25, you are welcomed to pull up into the curved area for drop-off. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring an efficient drop off!
While we appreciate a phone call letting us know your child is absent, with the updated Attendance procedures, we will now request a written explanation of absences for each day they were absent.
This may be an email sent to Tyler.Lamon@kellerisd.net or a written note that is sent upon your child's return. An absence is considered to be a partial absence any time that a student leaves early or arrives later than the first 15 minutes of the day and parents may utilze a parent excuse for these if there is not documentation. Please see the Keller ISD Attendance 101 for more information. https://www.kellerisd.net/students-families/resources/students-families-resources/attendance-truancy
Parents, your students photos are now available to view. Glamourcraft will be sending a postcard in about two weeks with their photo and code to their homeroom teacher. All packages purchased will be shipped to your home.
Keller ISD Elementary students are invited to enter their holiday artwork in this year’s KISD Elementary Holiday Card Contest.
This year’s contest is open to all KISD elementary school students. One lucky winner will have their artwork featured on the District’s official digital holiday card.
Guidelines for this year’s Holiday Card Contest include:
Design a piece of artwork featuring holiday or winter images, scenes, celebrations, or traditions.
Create artwork on an 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper using any materials.
Creatively incorporate “Keller ISD” somewhere within the artwork.
Label the back of the artwork with student name, campus, and grade level.
You can drop off your entries at the Front Office by Wednesday, November 13.
The winner and finalists will be announced prior to Thanksgiving Break and recognized at the December 19 Board of Trustees Meeting.
Good luck!

Sodexo has received several concerns regarding the printed menu reflecting options which are either substituted or changed completely on the serving line due to product unavailability or use of State provided commodity items. While Sodexo strives to minimize the number of changes to the menu, they are still at the mercy of product manufacture shortages and logistical challenges from all providers which places a burden on the program to provide the menu as previously planned.
To improve the communication of menu changes Sodexo has recently launched new and improved online menus for Keller ISD through Nutrislice at https://kellerisd.nutrislice.com/menus-eula .
This change will provide students, staff and families the most up-to-date printable and digital menus that are reflective of any changes that need to be made to the menus.
Did you hear? There are FIVE choices for lunch each day this year!
https://kellerisd.sodexomyway.com/
What time is breakfast? Breakfast will begin at 7:25. The line will close at 7:50 for students to be in class at 7:55.
What is offered? This school year Sodexo will be offering 3 hot side options and 2 cold side options.
How do I add money to my child’s cafeteria account? You may place money on your child's lunch account by setting up an account for them on School Cafe. The link is below and you will need your student's ID # to do so.
