September 2-6
No School on Monday September 2: Labor Day - District Holiday
Dear FES Families,
I have been so impressed by our students and the ways in which they are starting off each day in a great way, coming in with a smile on their face and ready to learn! "Start the Day with Play" has been a huge hit for our students and I have loved seeing our students eager to arrive on time to enjoy creating and playing!
Today, as a part of our ongoing commitment to safety and security, we conducted our first monthly fire drill. We will be continuing to reinforce and practice our safety and security procedures throughout the year for different emergency events, including lockdown, lockout, severe weather, and evacuations. Each month, we will also be watching a KISD Safety and Security video that is designed for students as a part of our morning announcements in order to review, revisit, and go over our safety procedures. We encourage you to talk to your child about today's drill and to discuss the safety measures you would take in your own home in the event of an emergency and formulate your own plan for safety, including an evacuation and reunification plan.
Remember that Monday is a holiday, so we will not have school. Over this long weekend, our district's pest control department will be coming to treat our facilities to ensure that we don't have any unexpected critters joining us as we come back in the month of September. We have an action packed September ahead with our Fun Run Fundraiser kicking off this upcoming week, our Bookfair, STUCO campaigns, and lunch with grandparents, and international dot day! Take a look at our newsletter for important updates and information.
We hope you and your families enjoy a nice, long weekend!
In Falcon Spirit!

It has been so fun to see our students sharing their excitement and love for different colleges! We loved hearing from students as they shared their connection and their excitement for different colleges. It's wonderful to hear kids already talking about their future and their plans for what they want to be when they grow up!
Today, we conducted our first fire drill of the year and our students did an outstanding job of moving quickly and quietly! We had everyone out of the building and accounted for in just a couple of minutes!
We will continue to conduct monthly fire drills and other safety drills throughout the year as a part of our commitment to student safety and security!
Our students love having a visit from Officer Potter as he circulates the building to ensure that our building and students remain safe!
Our incredible cafeteria staff ensure that students have 5 choices of healthy, delicious food, each day, while greeting our students with a smile!
Mrs. Styne's hybrid math class has been working this week with some HUGE numbers (all the way in the ten thousands) and learning about rounding to different values. During circle time on the carpet, they practiced by seeing which way would Fido roll, creating a number line and determining where the number fell in relation to rounding.
our 4th grade students have been exploring plot elements in their RLA time, reading and mapping out the stories they have been reading. They worked collaboratively as teams to analyze and map the elements of their story including the rising action, climax, and supporting details of the plot.

Any student who arrives after 7:55 AM must enter through the front office (door 1) and be checked in by our office. If you arrive after 7:55 on the K,1,2 side of the parking lot, there will not be adults present to help them enter the building and you will need to go to the main entrance to drop off your child.
While we appreciate a phone call letting us know your child is absent, with the updated Attendance procedures, we will now request a written explanation of absences for each day they were absent. This may be an email sent to Tyler.Lamon@kellerisd.net or a written note that is sent upon your child's return.
Change in Over-the-Counter Medication Administration
Keller ISD nursing staff is changing how it administers over-the-counter medication to students this school year. Due to new guidance from the Texas Board of Nursing, schools must now have both parent authorization and physician authorization for a school nurse to administer over-the-counter medications to students.
Previously, Keller ISD nursing staff could administer over-the-counter medications for less than 10 days with just a parent or guardian’s request, so we understand this represents a significant change for many families. Please note that all medications require a physician’s authorization annually – whether it is an over-the-counter or prescription medication.
Click here to learn more about this change in medication administration.
Additionally, if you would like to bring your child medication and give it to your child, this must take place in the nurse's office and may not be given in the cafeteria, classroom, or other locations in the building.
Parents are always welcome at FES! If you are interested in volunteering, you must fill out the Keller ISD Volunteer Application. All FES visitors are required to enter at door #1, go through the front office, provide picture identification, and obtain a visitor badge before proceeding to any part of the building which must be worn in a visible area for the duration of the time on campus. Office staff will verify the visitor is a parent, guardian, or approved contact for a student.
Guests are only allowed in designated areas to minimize disruption of the learning environment and may not go throughout the building, to the playground, or classrooms.
Guests are required to exit the building through the office during school hours. We value and appreciate guests and all volunteers at FES!
The KISD Math department has put together a guide for parents to see what your child is learning in math, including an overview, important concepts and common misconceptions. It also includes ideas of how to support your child's learning at home. Simply click on your child's grade level link to see the curriculum overview and information.
