13 - Organizing with Folders

Overview

As students begin submitting work, Seesaw can begin to feel unruly and disorganized. Fortunately, organization becomes a lot simpler when you make use of folders. Folders allow you to organize activities and student journal entries in a way that makes sense to you.

We recommend having folders sorted by subject. This will also allow specialists to create a folder for their activities within your class, helping to keep their materials separate from your own.

Note that folders are different from collections. Folders store student work and responses to activities, while collections are a way to organize activities in your activity library so they are easier to find.

Steps for Creating Folders:

  1. Select the blue folder icon next to "Class Journal" on your teacher dashboard.

2. This screen will allow you to open different folders, but we don't have any created yet. Select the blue "Manage Folders" button.

3. This screen will allow you to make changes to existing folders (such as their name or color), and create new ones. Select the blue "Create a Folder" button.

4. Use the text field that appears to give your folder a name, and then choose a color.

5. Click the green check mark. That's it! Your folder has been created.

Steps for Adding Activities to Folders When Assigning:

  1. Navigate to your Activity Library, and choose an activity to assign. Click the green Assign button.

2. On the window that appears, check the box next to the class you wish to assign the activity to, and then select "Edit Students, Folders, Skills".

3. On the next window, select the "Folders" tab and check the box next to the folder you wish for student responses to this activity to be sorted into, then click the green check mark.

4. Click the green assign button to assign the activity to your students. Because you took the previous steps, all submissions to the activity will be sorted into the folder you chose!
