All State Approved CTE courses meet SD High School graduation requirement.

All Human Services classes study confidentiality and are CPR/AED certified.  A personal resume is prepared in the Intro to Human Services class.

INTRO TO HUMAN SERVICES

CTH-3010

Length/Credit:      One Semester, Two Hour block, 1 credit 

Prerequisite:         None, Open to grade 10-12

Location:                  Offered at CTE Academy only

Students will participate in two job shadow experiences.

This course explores people-oriented occupations that require training in areas such as human development, professionalism, and employment skills. Students will identify possible career paths suitable to their strengths, skills, and talents through guest speakers, industry tours, and activities. Students will leave the class with both a resume and a portfolio.

GUIDING YOUTH & FAMILIES

CTH-3020

Length/Credit:      One Semester, Two Hour block, 1 credit 

Prerequisite:         None, Open to grade 10-12

Location:                  Offered at CTE Academy only

Students will participate in two job shadow experiences.

Do you enjoy working with small or large groups of people? Students will explore careers related to working directly with individuals of all ages. Classroom activities, guest speakers, and field trips will expose students to topics such as relationships, teen and family issues, ethics and legal issues, social problems, and community resources.

PERSONAL SERVICES

Length/Credit:      One Semester, Two hour block, 1 credit

Prerequisite:          None, Open to grade 10-12 

Location:                  Offered at the CTE Academy only

Students will participate in two job shadow experiences.

This course is a great choice for future physical therapists, personal trainers, dieticians, massage therapists, cosmetologists, event planners, etc. Students will explore topics such as communications strategies, advertising, and consumer services related to working with individuals of all ages. Students will identify possible career paths through industry tours, guest speakers, and activities.
