The first year of the program provides cadets with an introduction to both leadership and citizenship. The first year also gives the new cadets exposure to personal growth and responsibility and establishes a foundation of military structure and tradition.

The second year continues the leadership and citizenship classes of LE-I. During LE-II the students receive instruction in general military subjects with more structure and tradition than in LE-I, as well as the introduction of civilian marksmanship and land navigation training with map and compass. This year also provides additional learning experiences in personal growth and responsibility, as well as citizenship.
LEADERSHIP TRAINING III (LE-III)

In LE-III, cadets will begin to apply their leadership training as they assume positions of increased authority and responsibility within the program. In this year, detailed instruction on inspections and teamwork is presented, as well as other preparation for life beyond high school.

Senior cadets will lead formations and inspections, as well as supervise certain training events with younger cadets. LE-4 cadets continue to be challenged academically with requirements for research projects, independent studies and progress reports.

This LHS one-year .5 credit is an extension of the standard program designed to enhance the skills taught at an advanced placement (AP) level. Explains all aspects of MCJROTC drill and ceremonies, uniforms, clothing & equipment, customs, courtesies and traditions of the Marine Corps. Cadets taking this class are eligible for Color Guard opportunities and Drill Team Competitions.
ADVANCE LEADERSHIP EDUCATION MARKSMANSHIP

This LHS one-year .5 credit is an extension of the standard program designed to enhance the skills taught at an advanced placement (AP) level. Explains all of the aspects of competitive air rifle information, safe operation, training of air rifle marksmanship, and USA sports competitive shooting.
These courses satisfy CTE credit in Government and Public Administration requirements.
There is no military obligation associated with these courses. However, students are issued a uniform and are expected to ear it approximately 7-8 times/semester. While these uniforms are military in nature, it is designed to give students experience in maintaining a uniform, demonstrate proper wear of a uniform, and an opportunity to show rank/award achievements earned throughout their participation in the program.

The first year of the program, focusing on the “Emerging Leader,” provides students (known as cadets in the program) with an introduction to leading in small groups, developing a personal code of conduct, and expectations of good citizenship. In this course, cadets will demonstrate an understanding of the evolution of U.S. citizenship and the freedoms stated in the Bill of Rights. Cadets will learn the importance of career planning, goal setting, time management, and effective communication skills. Cadets also develop an appreciation of physical fitness in order to develop healthy habits and a fulfilling lifestyle. In addition, cadets get an opportunity to display proficiency in first-aid techniques and map reading; all while demonstrating a high level of self-confidence.

Second year cadets, now in the “Developing Leader” section of our curriculum, build on their newly discovered leadership skills, enhance their self-esteem while demonstrating effective decision making skills. Second year cadets assist in mentoring first year cadets; establishing a welcoming environment that challenges their peers as well as themselves. Cadets are given the opportunity to plan and execute a Service Learning Project; working with middle school students to promote citizenship within our community.

Third year cadets, focusing on the “Supervising Leadership” section, become class leaders, sharing their knowledge and experience with underclassmen. Cadets in this level have demonstrated their dedication to and acceptance as stewards of the program; taking direct ownership of the decisions and execution of the program’s future. Third year cadets enhance their self-worth as they prepare for entrance to post-secondary opportunities. Cadets in their third year generally hold senior staff positions in the cadet battalion; planning, directing, and supervising activities throughout the school year.
Cadets who successfully complete three years of JROTC are eligible to enlist in any service branch of the miliary in the pay grade of E-3.

The final year of the program, the “Managing Leader,” has a primary emphasis placed on practical application of the cadet’s leadership duties and responsibilities learned over the course of previous three years in the program. Cadets at this level continue their dedication and stewardship to the program. Cadets enrolled in this course are often empowered to mentor, teach, and assess junior cadets within the program. Cadets at this level are expected to have demonstrated their understanding of effective communication skills, effective leadership qualities, and a desire to affect change in anything they participate in. Cadets who complete four years of JROTC demonstrated the ability to market oneself for a job, express a desire to graduate from high school.
ADVANCED LEADERSHIP EDUCATION MILITARY DRILL

This WHS one-year .5 credit is an opportunity for cadets to develop and demonstrate advanced drill and ceremony skills while working as a team to compete against other school programs in the city, state or region. Cadets participating in this opportunity work on a mastery of leadership kills and abilities in a small group setting. This is normally presented in the form of a pre-school practice—generally from 7:30-8:07 during the school week. Drill competitions do not begin until the end of 1st semester or beginning of 2nd semester. Cadets are not required to pay to participate in these teams and travel (if necessary) will be covered by the program.

Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) I is predominantly a historical perspective of the role of the military throughout the history of the United States with emphasis on aerospace developments and their influence on National Policy and objectives worldwide. It introduces cadets to history, organization , mission, traditions, goals, and objectives of JROTC for all services. It also introduces key military customs and courtesies, describes how to project a positive, professional image, and examines the principles of ethical and moral behavior. In addition, the course provides leadership experiences that help to develop positive attitudes toward authority, responsibility, and self-discipline. Cadets also develop an appreciation for physical fitness in maintaining good health and appearance. Finally, cadets will be introduced to civics and our national government where they will gain a historical understanding of the American flag and other important national symbols and learn how the US Constitution protects our rights and freedoms as American citizens.

Aerospace topics emphasize the science of flight, including factors of aerospace power, aircraft flight, and navigation. Woven throughout is the underlying theme of developing personal integrity. The course also emphasizes leadership and values such as service and excellence. In addition, cadets further develop their physical fitness by maintaining good health and appearance and an active life-style.

Students will be provided an in-depth view of the solar system, including Earth, the Sun, the Moon, and planets. The history of space travel and more modern space probes and robotics are covered as well as the importance of cybersecurity in space and in daily life. Leadership/life skills lessons cover self-awareness, self-care, scheduling and time management, personal finance, and preparation for post-high school career or education opportunities. Finally, cadets further develop their physical fitness by maintaining good health and appearance and an active life-style.

In these courses, primary emphasis is placed on practical application of a cadet’s leadership duties and responsibilities within the Cadet Group; planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, controlling, and decision-making done by cadets. They will put into practice their communication, decision-making, personal interaction, managerial, and organizational skills. The course is structured so that cadets achieve most course objectives by completing required corps management activities. Further leadership/life skills lessons cover increased self-awareness, self-care, scheduling and advanced preparation for post-high school career/education opportunities. Finally, cadets demonstrate the importance of physical fitness by maintaining good health and appearance and an active life-style.
