What we're learning & doing in class: This week we will continue exploring the significance of standing stones and how they were used in the Bible. We will also look at how we can be a part of God's story as living stones today.

Stones in God's Story project due Thursday (work time in class; will be completed at school)
Learning Targets: We will be discussing how to find equivalent fractions, compare fractions and convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions.

Project:
Reading/Writing: This week, we will continue our shared reading unit on the book Dash, a story about a young Japanese American girl named Mitsi living who is sent to an internment camp during WWII and is separated from her dog, Dash. This story explores themes of prejudice and resilience, which we will discuss as we read the book together.

Band: The 5th grade has done a great job last week! Everyone learned how to assemble, hold their instrument, and produce a sound! Monday 8/31 are when the first round of "Band Checkups" are due! This week we will learn how to play 3 different notes, how to articulate, oil valves, and use the spit valve. We will have full band on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week.
