Nature Sonnet

Pit, pat, splish splash.

The dark figure began to loom over my shoulder.

Pit, pat, splish, splash.

The sun started to hide behind the clouds as it crept ever closer.

Pitter, patter, smash, crash.

The air started growing ever colder.

Filled with white brightening streaks followed by a defining bash

Smash, Crash, Bang, Bang.

Bang, Bang, Bang, CRASH.

Splish, splash, tap, tap.

The darkness slowly became light as the figure went further.

Life had started to appear in the distance as if the awful figure never appeared.

Hmm well, that was weird.

First snowflake

A dark figure began to inclose the small luscious valley. The people began to shelter up and wait for the pit-pat of the falling water. Slowly the bright green faded to a deep and calming green. The plants and tree began to open for the cold embrace of the storm. The wind picked up just like any other stormy day. The people never heard the pit-pat or even saw lightning. A few of the curious type went outside and saw what seemed to be feathers. Others heard of the word and they rushed out. The air had been filled with spikes or so what it had seemed. The people walked in fear as the ground around them began to shimmer white. In some parts, the white had grown enough to be the size of a hand. Some ran inside and some stayed out all filled with a special kind of fear at the mysterious substance.

People started to try and grab these things falling but they vanished upon touching them. The special kind of people found out the small patched could be held but would slowly disappear making their hands wet and cold. The weird white things fell more and more as the small amount of sunlight fades beyond the whiting mountains. As the vivid green became a blinding black people rushed inside still scared of the things coming from the sky. The following morning the air around everyone was freezing even though it was blinding outside. The ground made a soft crunch and it was powdered white. The hot sun blistered their skin while the white powder froze their feet. The breeze cut their arms. They went the whole day in the warm cold as if nothing happened. Once the hunters had returned they saw kids and people throwing it at each other and having heaps of fun. People around the whole village indeed in this activity. They called the substance “Yas” meaning snow in the natives’ language. The people had all gone to sleep and the sunset behind the white-topped mountain. The next morning everything was gone as if it had never happened however clouds lurked over the gleaming peaks they hopped that the same treat would fall for another day of fun and enjoyment.

Curiosity Killed the Fox

It was the middle of winter in a crying forest. There has been a funeral recently over a foxy named Daken. He had been killed by a corrupt fox who wanted to control the other foxes. One little fox named Ayumi had thrown the fox off a raven after setting out to kill the corrupt fox. It has been three weeks since this has happened but the cold winter nights kept getting colder.

“What was that mom,” whispered Ayumi.

“It was howling, be quiet sleep child,” the mother sounded scared by saying this. Ayumi didn’t want to sleep, she wanted to know what was causing the howls. He waited for her parents to fall asleep, she went outside once they were. The bright moonlight shone over her giving her an almost ghost-like glow. The snow was hard and burned her feet when she stepped onto it. The trees seemed to warn her to move away and her hairs fell behind her over the burning breeze. She heard rustling and howling. She tried to smell for what the creatures were but her nose was too cold to smell anything. She heard a loud whoosh behind her and she felt things staring at her. She became the ground and froze. She heard a growl so she ran as fast as she could back to her den and she snuggled up with her parents. The sun wasn’t there the next morning it was raining and dark out. Ayumi had been the first to wake up, after writing in her journal she went outside. She saw large footprints in the snow and large scratches on the trees. “It’s just the elk, right? Maybe they came back,” she told herself as she stood outside. Ayumi felt something behind her and she jumped back in fear.

“Someone’s jumpy this morning aren't they,” her dad said with a little chuckle.

“Haha yeah sorry just a little offset by the rain.”

“Oh don’t apologize just don’t do it agi- hey honey,” her dad stopped to focus on her mother.

“Don’t tease Ayumi!” She said this with fun anger and they all laughed. The day had been normal and Ayumi had gotten over the other night at least until about the half sunset around three. Saeko the fox messenger had stopped by and warned, “You guys should be careful a family of five were just killed in their den last night.”

“Oh no! Where?” Mother had said giving off her fear.

“Down the creek by the willows near the far forest.” Mother had stood on her hind legs and backed up after hearing this and dad stopped eating. Ayumi knew where the creek and the willows were but she had never been allowed by the far forest she was told it wasn’t safe.

“Can we all talk over there for a minute, please?” Her dad was urgent in saying this. Ayumi followed but they showed her away. It had been a good five minutes of them talking before they came back.

“Let’s go!” Mother had said hastefully.

“Why?”

“Just go!” They all rushed into the den and Ayumi’s dad moved a rock over the den as the sun was setting. The howling had been loud tonight as Ayumi fell asleep, this slumber didn’t last long, however. During the middle of the night Ayumi heard scratching rustling, she woke up in the pitch darkness. After her eyes adjusted she saw her mom and dad shoving against a rock and the rock seemed to be moving. She was about to ask what was happening when she heard a loud growl and she jumped back and hit her head on the back of the den, she fell to the floor as her parents were fighting whatever was outside. The next morning her parents were gone! Ayumi jolted up and ran outside crying for her parents. They were nowhere to be seen. The fresh layer of snow had prints everywhere she decided to try and see if she could follow any of them. She followed the set of tracks to the town burrow and she heard people talking inside. She stumbled down the den and saw her parents and almost every other fox in a mile radius. They all stopped and stared at her.

“Hey sweetie go home it's ok we'll be back in a minute,” Ayumi’s mother said softly. The other foxes stuck up their noses as if Ayumi did something wrong.

“Get her out!” Someone shouted. The room looked at her to go so she left and went back to her den to write in a journal.

“I wonder what they were talking about she thought to herself.” “Maybe they were talking about those things that were outside last night.” Ayumi sat in silence until about ten which was two hours from when she went back home. She heard footsteps outside so she got up knowing it was her parents. “Mom!”

“Hey sweetie, sorry daddy and I got caught up.” Mother had said this with confidence while dad just watched Ayumi with fear.

“Can I go see Hizuka?”

“No.” Dad had said this faster than what is humanly possible but, he did it.

“Why?”

“No ones allowed outside.”

“Why?”

“No.”

“Please, please, please, please!”

“Let’s go inside sweetie,” mom nudged Ayumi inside and dad pulled the rock over the hole. They had stayed in the den for a few hours and the sun was starting to set.

“Let's head to bed ok.”

“The sun just set? It's winter mom, isn’t it only six or five?”

“I know sweetie it's just time for bed ok.”

“Ok,” Ayumi said this with a lot of sadness in her voice. In the middle of the night, she woke up to a loud thud and rustling. She got up and saw the rock had fallen, but no one was up? She went to go fix the rock when she heard something outside. She stepped outside and heard a growl. She started to turn around when she felt a huge amount of pain coming from her shoulder, she had been bit! She screamed as loud as she could and started running. She heard the thing following behind her. She felt blood flying onto her back.

“Ayumi!!!” Her dad started running after the beast.

“DAD! HELP!” Ayumi had turned around to look at her dad, as she turned around she saw her dad disappearing with a huge grey streak. She heard her dad scream followed but a huge crack.

“DAD!!!” Ayumi screamed as loud as she possibly could. There was no response. Ayumi felt a set of razors dig into her leg and pull her back. She was picked up into the air and jerked violently back and forth. She felt the beast’s slobber and teeth fall further into her leg as she began to scream louder of pain. Howels flooded the air followed by footsteps and growling. She felt the razors fly out of her foot as she was thrown through the air into a tree. She fell to the floor and saw her mother leap onto the beast and bite its shoulder.

“RUN!” Her mother screamed. Ayumi watched the beast turn around and snap her mother in half as more of the beasts came to feast on the fresh meat. Ayumi ran through the forest tripping and running into everything she could barely see through her tears let alone walk with her leg. She coughed blood onto the floor but she kept running. She coughed again and dropped to the floor. She saw her brother in the distance tilting his head at her. Ayumi tried to stand up again but fell to the ground.

“Come here Ayumi.” Her brother seemed to whisper. She got up and used all her strength to run towards where he was but right as she was about to touch him he vanished. She turned to see where he went but she tripped on a stick and fell onto the ground shooting snow from under her. She felt more and more blood come from her body. She laid her head down, her breathing slowed and slowed, she curled up from the cold, and with one last quiet cough of blood, she was finally free.

Birds Eye View

As I soared through the open blue I was able to see the vibrate blues and green of the sea. Every little wave curdles the colors one by one. The glistening sparkles of white sparking off the surface one by one flaking the bigger picture into a wondrous madness. The specks of green flutter as the waves rise and fall with the wind. Faulted colors beneath the surface letting through dreams of glamourous coral beneath. Taking another larger flap to flush into a dive. As the shades of blue and specs of white sprint ever closer, I pull up and stare towards the cities skyline, the commotion a color in itself. Blues rushing by and the shore of vivid tan shaded with every color of the rainbow as everyone towels and swimsuits wizz around. Tipping my claws lightly into the water, my vision is filled with drops of water. My talons squeezed a fish and I jolted up to the baby blue sky with not a pinch of covering clouds to be seen.
