Nature's Importance

Nature's Importance

Did you know that just by living by an open or green space you are less likely to have anxiety and depression? Scientists have proven that by living by nature your mental health is improved. Nature is important because it gives us all of our natural resources, it makes us healthier (physically and mentally), and it is truly inspiring to many people.

Nature provides natural resources like Oxygen to breath, water to drink, and food to eat, without it we wouldn’t be able to survive. Although nature does give us all of our resources, we need to start protecting our renewable resources because with the rate we're going all of our fossil fuels will be gone by 2060 or before. This seems like a long time away but in reality is in the near future and we need to start using a sustainable way to collect and use energy. Other sources that are sustainable include wind and solar power. The other good thing about these sources is that they create little to no pollution and don’t release CO2 into the atmosphere. Nature is important in that it gives us all of our food, water, and energy, but if we don’t atrt to protect these resources they will soon disappear.

Second, nature is important because it makes us healthier mentally, by relieving stress and anxiety, and physically, by providing us fun physical activities like hiking and skiing. We as humans need mental breaks from the world and nature provides them. David Strayer, a cognitive psychologist, says that, ”When we slow down, stop the busywork, and take in beautiful natural surroundings, not only do we feel restored, but our mental performance improves too.” This means that by just taking a minute to see the nature around us we are able to improve our performance at school or work. It can also improve our physical health too. Health care professionals even say that going outside for short amounts of time,” can be part of the healing process.” Nature has improved the health of cancer patients who just go outside and can improve your health too, by providing a more fun and interesting way to exercise. Nature can heal and improve our overall health in many ways. We should all try to get out more if not for our physical health but also, it can put us in a more productive and creative state of mind.

Lastly nature is truly inspiring for poets, writers, artists, ect. It allows the brain to truly relax and get into a creative state. Nature has a way of removing distractions from our everyday lives and allowing us to just focus on the little things. There are many authors who love nature and use it to help create their books, but in the early 1900s when other women were the mothers of the household, Gene Stratten-Porter was writing about nature. She has written many popular fiction books while sitting by a wetland near her home. Many of her books have been adapted into films and she's sold over 10 million copies of her masterpieces. She has inspired so many young women to go into writing. She has used her publicity to help save parts of the wetlands near her home in India. She loves nature and uses it to create her books. We can all learn from her and use nature to our advantage.

Nature is beneficial to everyone's health and wellbeing and without it we wouldn’t be able to get any of our natural resources. We should all try to spend more time in nature and protect our natural resources. Nature is proven to help with our physical and mental health, so we better stop destroying it and start recognizing its importance.

Birds Eye View

Soaring above the world beyond. It is an amazing feeling to see all that is below and no that all you have to do is fly. As a bird all I have to do is find food, shelter, and fy. It is pretty nice sometimes to have all your worries be blown away. Although I love to go sightseeing over all the pretty views my favorite part of flying is eavesdropping on human conversations. Humans can be quite entertaining, you know.

Once I was listening to two people on a kayak. They were struggling quite hard.

“Were going to ti[pp over,” one of the humans said.

“No were not,” the other humans said. They're going to tip over, I thought to myself. They were lean over pretty far and their boat had lots of water in it.

“This is all your fault,” the first human said, and tip, tip, tip, over they went.

Splash into the water.

“See you made us tip,” The first human screamed,”Now I’m cold and the shore is so far and I can't get back on.”

“Why did you make us tip?” The second human questioned. I wanted to squawk at him telling him it was his fault you dummy.

Oh! And that other time I got to hear a breakup on a chairlift. I was just casually resting in the mountains on one of those chairlift poles and I hear,”And that’s why I’m breaking up with you,” the girl human said. I quickly jumped to my feet and started flying alongside them, because you know I can’t miss the drama.

“”I’m sorry you bad at skiing,” the bpy human said.

“I just need to do the greens, and you took me down a black. You could have killed me!” she yelled at him.

“You said you could go with me,” the boy human said, not apologizing. You know he would have gotten away much easier if he just said sorry. The end of the chairlift was approaching and I knew the drama would soon stop. I was just about to fly away when I saw the “happy couple” both wipe out getting off the chairlift. Now I’m starting to wonder how he did that black.

Now being a bird can sometimes be bad, but I do have lots of stories like these ones. Flying can be fun, but eavesdropping is even better.

Origin Poem - Snow

The Origin of Snow

The people of the sky lived so sheltered

Not allowed to play

Not allowed to go anywhere outside their houses

Only allowed to stay inside

One day the children living in the sky got bored

They had always seen the earth kids get to play

They got to swing on swings and roll on the grass

But they were told that it was dangerous to go outside

So very late at night a couple of sky children made a plan,

The next day they were going to see what it was like,

What the outdoors was like,

What it was like to play outside.

The very next day they all went outside

They jumped on the clouds

They rolled through the cotton candy like white in the sky

They jumped for the sun feeling its heat on their skin

They were having so much fun they didn’t even realize,

They were making it snow!

The wait on the clouds made the clouds shed

The clouds shed little white dots

The people of earth were stunned

They didn’t know what to do with these little white dots,

But although they were new,

They loved it!

Now every couple of weeks the earth people

Call up the sky people and tell them to jump on the clouds

The sky people love to get outside

And the earth people love this new thing they now call snow.

An Evergreen

Standing there, what do I see

The great nature beyond,

An evergreen tree,

And how should I respond?

This beauty before us,

That is so enchanted

Never making a fuss

Always taken for granted

Stays light and green

Throughout the year

Standing tall like a queen

It's always been near

And what can I say?

It’s here everyday.
