Fire and Ice
Fire
Scorching, dangerous
Dancing, Raging, Destroying
Embers, Combustion . . . Frosty Frigid
Glacial, Polar, Shimmering
Still, Silent
Ice
Rock and Water
Rock
Dormant, silent
Listening, Supporting, Observing
Heavy, Impenetrable . . . Delicate, Brittle
Flowing, Healing, Glistening
Gentle, Calming
Water
Celeste, Our Night Sky
Burning bursting balls of light
The ones that fill our eyes at night
Sometimes I breakdown, I fumble and cry
Yet the darkness comforts me
Blanketing the earth with it's silent light
Obscuring the planet we call home
Once the world was forever bright, even in the depths of night yet the darkness stole the throne
A flawless woman, her name, Celeste
Did everything she could she tried her best
The light, was but her friend and she lived beside the riverbend
Her tears they flowed like the river herself,
Her sadness stained her face
She felt as though she, a disgrace
Never feeling like herself
More a porcelain doll on a high up shelf.
She longed for a feeling, one she could never explain
She yearned for a blanket
One to soothe her pain
One night in the silence
Of a warm summer day
The pain she carried on her back began to fade away
The sun began to dim, and the light began to decrease
As she faded into the dark endless sky
Celeste was finally at peace.
Why Nature Is Important
Nature is important because it helps to supply the world's food and water, being in nature can help to improve physical and mental health, and lastly, it supplies oxygen for the entire world.
Where does all of our food come from? We may not think about it every day, but every time you take a bite out of a delicious sandwich, or you walk down the snack aisle, none of those foods would be there without the nature around you. Although many foods nowadays are processed and refined, they still would not be possible without the nature around us. When you think about it, all the meat that we eat relies on nature. So does the wheat that we bake into our bread. And of course, the veggies that we put into our sandwiches, and the fruit used to flavor our ice cream. Every bite of food comes from nature! Food is fundamental to survival. All the things that we do in our daily lives rely on energy. We need the energy to ride a bike, to take out the trash, to cook. And in order for us to get this energy, we need to eat! Without food, we would die. Evidence of this can be found on “Food Network” where they give recipes for delicious meals using ingredients only possible because of nature.
Studies have shown that being in nature can improve physical and mental health. Evidence of this can be found in the article, “your brain on nature” where it stated that studies from a hospital show that patients who had a view of nature had a quicker recovery rate, and they felt better while in the hospital. This was shocking to me. It is no secret that being in nature can help to improve your mental health. Evidence of this can be provided by….well me. I suffer from low self-esteem, anxiety, ADHD, and depression. All of which I see a therapist for. My therapist is absolutely amazing, but she is not the only thing that helps me when I am struggling. Spending some time in nature has always helped me to become less anxious, to feel calm and relaxed, and even to feel happier.
Lastly, nature supplies all of the oxygen that we require to breathe. Evidence of this can be found on the Capilano Suspension Bridge website. The Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is located in Vancouver Canada. This park is absolutely breathtaking. It is so beautiful and I was fortunate enough to go here. When I visited this magical place, I was shocked to learn that just one of the Douglas-firs that grow in this coastal rainforest is enough to provide a family of four with enough oxygen to last them their entire lives.
In conclusion, there are so so many reasons why nature is important. Nature is the reason we are able to have enough food to eat, nature can help us physically and mentally and nature provides the very gas that we need to breathe for survival. It is shocking that somewhere so simple, and free can have so many impacts on our lives without us even realizing it.
Carpe Diem Poem
The summer sun
Golden in hue
The evening sky
Dark Beautiful Blue
The trees so green, and yellow and red
A beautiful eagle with a snowy white head
The roses bloom
Their aroma entrancing
The stars in the sky silently dancing
The summer sun fades
And is replaced by darkness
The evening sky obscured by storm clouds
The leaves on the trees turn to ash
The trunks burn
Turning to hot heavy trash
The rose petals wilt
And the shadows tilt
And the fire quickly spreads
The bald eagle lays on natures dry charred bed
The world has killed him
The bald eagle now dead
