Exploring science, students will gain knowledge of the skills scientists use in order to successfully conduct an experiment. Students will conduct an investigation in order to model, explain, and demonstrate how all of the steps are used in the problem-solving plan of the scientific method. This activity also models how to conduct and complete a Science Project, display results, think like a scientist, and how science applies to our own life, such as career choices in the sciences.
Students will create a beautiful new park in their community that will feature plenty of space and includes a working ecosystem where producers, consumers, and decomposers will work together as a food chain. Students will become park designers and work with the mayor and other landscape architects to design and create this new community outdoor space.
Students will publicly exhibit the following:
Illustrate and label a picture of a park.
Create a brochure that highlights all the parts of their park ecosystem.
Write a letter to the local newspaper to inform them about the new park and its offer to the community.
Students will create a PowerPoint to inform the mayor about the importance of a working ecosystem in the new park with a partner.
Create a diorama of a new park design and include some parts of the working ecosystem.
Write in a journal what they learned about the working parts of an ecosystem.
