This is the perfect time of year to share the core values that the administrative team identified during our summer retreat. Brenee Brown's book Dare to Lead was the center of our discussion about what it is to be a leader in the Jamestown Schools. She defines a leader as anyone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in others and has the courage to develop that potential. That sounds like the work that we should not only be doing with our staff, but also with our students - developing potential for lifelong success!
In Brown's book Dare to Lead, she discusses the importance of living into our values and rising for success. I believe that values should be the foundation of our district. The Jamestown Administrative team identified the following values that we try to live each and every day.
Together through a collaborative approach and living in our values I know we can deliver a high quality education to our students, provide opportunities to enhance their learning, and develop their potential for lifelong success. I know our staff believes in the same because there is a group of them that are reading the same book, Dare to Lead. We have a group of teachers and administrators who meet monthly for a book study to discuss the book and challenge their values as leaders in our schools.
I believe I have the best job in the world. Everyday I wake up with a purpose for what I am going to do and the passion for the work ahead of us. It's about attitude, self-discipline, relationships, and portraying our values to the younger minds we inspire.
Together we can make this district even better and now is the time because we are about to embark on writing a new district strategic plan for our schools. We want you to be part of the plan and tell us what you want to see in the schools. In preparation for our work I invite you to attend one of the below gatherings to share your ideas and learn about the process. I hope you can be a part of it!
