Mrs. Stephanie Sullivan ~ 6th Grade Resource Teacher

Education Background: I received my Bachelor's of Science in Psychology/Special Education as well as some Post Graduate Work from Marist College.

What Community are you from? I reside in North Kingstown RI

Why do you want to be an educator in Jamestown? I had the opportunity to be a member of the Lawn School staff in 2016 as a long term substitute teacher, I returned in 2017 for a year long position in Grade 6 as the resource room teacher. During my time at Lawn, it quickly became evident that Jamestown was a amazing place to teach. The teachers provided lessons to encourage, challenge and inspire their students. The support the staff received from administration and the Jamestown community to carry out projects and lessons is truly unmatched. I am very excited to be back at Lawn School to work with the amazing educators, students and families in Jamestown.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about creating an environment of inclusion. I believe that a successful inclusive education happens when students feel welcomed and accepted by their peers and teachers. It is my job to teach the students to embrace the diversity in our learning community and to understand how they can support each other and work together.

What do you hope to accomplish in your first year at JSD? In my first year at Jamestown Schools, I want to establish myself as a teacher who inspires and challenges their students. I want to help students understand who they are and what they need to be successful not just in school, but in life. It is my goal to help students understand the importance of having a growth mindset and to never give up on their goals and dreams!

Why do you want to be an educator in Jamestown? Of course the National Blue Ribbon awards and phenomenal test scores would attract anyone to this district. However, as a Jamestown resident myself, I know what a tight knit community this is and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to involve myself even further. I was excited to learn that my teaching methods and educational philosophy align directly with the Jamestown School Department. I believe my education, experience and passion for teaching will serve Melrose students well.

What are you passionate about? I love using my creativity in the classroom. I enjoy developing new and innovative ways for students to access curriculum by making learning fun. I am extremely passionate about creating engaging lessons where students think critically, participate in thoughtful discussions and explore concepts.

What do you hope to accomplish in your first year at JSD? During my first year in the Jamestown School Department, I hope to develop strong relationships with my colleagues, administration and students. I look forward to expanding my knowledge as an educator by working closely with my colleagues and through professional development. Most of all, I hope to provide an environment which will instill a love for mathematics in my students. I will strive to build their confidence as independent problem solvers.
