Melrose Art Show

On Friday, May 31st, the Melrose Art Studio was proud to present the 1st Annual Art Show & Ice Cream Social! The event, which showcased the works of every student in grades Pre-K - 4, was a huge success, with many Jamestown families and community members in attendance. Our year-long theme, “Art In Motion”, fueled our creativity, which took many interesting directions, exploring movement, light, kinetic art, and several other STEAM-based art investigations.

Melrose Artists and their families were able to enjoy over 1,300 individual works of art and art installations displayed throughout the Melrose corridors and multipurpose room. Highlights of the show included Ceramic Wind Chimes by our Preschool Artists, Giant Painted Flower Arrangements by our Kindergarten Artists, Glow-In-The-Dark Fish Mobiles by our First Grade Artists, Ceramic Chihuly Bowls, and a Chihuly inspired Chandelier by our Second Grade Artists, a collaborative Solar System Mobile created by our Third Grade Artists, which was suspended gracefully overhead from the ceiling of the multipurpose room (or enjoyed by aerial views through the upper level windows!), and Acrylic Coastal Landscape Paintings of Jamestown created by our Fourth Grade Artists, as well as the newly installed Ceramic Tile Mural by our Fourth Graders, as part of the permanent Melrose collection.

Several Melrose faculty members exhibited their artwork, as well, exemplifying the rewarding possibilities of being lifelong artists.

A lovely addition to the evening was the Ice Cream Social which was sponsored by our generous PTO. Artists and their families were able to enjoy a cool, sweet treat, as they celebrated an evening of amazing student artwork.

We are extremely grateful for all who attended the Art Show in support of our Melrose Artists and the importance of Art Education. The evening proved to be an energizing experience that truly honored the artistic aspirations and incredible creative achievements of each of our fine Melrose Artists. Thank you, Melrose Artists, for a wonderful year of dedication, innovation, and exuberance for the Arts!

Very Truly Yours,

Mrs. Connolly
