What You Need To Know About The Summer School Construction

School Construction Update 6.14.19

Well, the time is here and we will begin our first phase of the school construction this month. As many of you know the Town passed a $5.9 million dollar bond in November of 2018. In addition, the Jamestown School Committee committed approximately $1 million dollars for capital improvement projects over 5 years. We are entering year 2 of these capital improvement projects.

Over the next few weeks, you will see construction crews from Colony Roofing Industries Inc., and Commercial Roofing and Contracting Inc. begin to mobilize on the grounds of Melrose School and Lawn School. They will begin with the implementation of safety procedures at each building to ensure the continued occupancy at each school. Especially, at the Melrose School, we will be particularly aware of the surroundings because of our Extended School Year program. At all times the safety and health of our students and staff will be a priority for us.

Some examples of the safety procedures are:

  • Proper fencing around the construction site
  • Proper marking and signage for parking, grounds access, and exterior and interior building access
  • Safety scaffolding at the primary entrance/exit of the building
  • All construction workers and vendors will be properly vetted by the construction companies.
  • Interior access to the school buildings will be limited, outdoor bathrooms will be provided for the workers.

We are expected to begin mobilization of construction crews, materials, and equipment for the the roof replacements, by the week of June 24 with substantial completion by August 15, and final completion by August 28. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
