Classroom-wide PBIS

PBIS at Tier 1 Classroom-Wide Resources

If we create predictability through structure, routines and the presence of reliable adults, we create a culture of belonging that promotes social-emotional and resiliency skills. Using the CISSA (Classroom Intervention & Supports Self-Assessment) to guide the intentional design of evidence-based practices provides the most comprehensive Tier 1 approach to achieve this outcome. The effectiveness of designing a classroom that addresses these nine critical features is maximized when:

  • strategies are implemented within a school-wide multi-tiered framework

  • classroom and school-wide agreements and systems are directly linked

  • classroom strategies are merged with effective instructional design, curriculum, and delivery

  • classroom-based data are used to guide decision making

We get our biggest bang for the buck at Tier 1. Remember, a prevention lens always believes that "if we predict it, we can prevent it."

This is a rich resource that is an updated version of the CISSA from the National PBIS Center which integrates social-emotional and behavior critical features for best classroom practices.
