PBIS is a multi-tiered system of support framework for behavior, so it is still appropriate to be implemented in high school if we do so at the systems level. Making developmental tweaks for effective implementation at the high school level can create a culture of connectedness and belonging that increases academic achievement and decreases behavioral errors, suspension, expulsion and the rate of students dropping out. In fact, the adolescent brain needs more authentic acknowledgement, relationships and recognition than at any other time in life--this is why it is vital to set up this system of supports consistently in all settings across campus for all students.
