One thing I have observed at my site is that my supervisors and co-workers are very laid back. Everyone is very nice and understanding and we all communicate very well. The site operates in a very routine manner everyday. The same steps are done for set up, homework time, clubs, snack, clean up, etc. Other places I have worked at were more strict with rules but at College Wood, there are not many strict rules to follow. Since children are very random and they do not follow rules everyday, not everyday looks the same. One thing that surprised me is that there are a lot of things going on everyday at the same time. When the children come in after dismal, there are certain tasks I need to complete while watching the children. There is a lot of multitasking that is done which is something I have gotten better at it after working at this school site.
Employees are working together all the time. We are put in pairs to watch groups of children so we are always with another co-worker. Work at the internship is always in groups. Watching a group of 40+ children takes teamwork so we are paired to watch them and do clubs, snack, etc with them. Everyone always gets to talk one on one with the supervisors when they come in to work. The supervisors always greet us and ask us how our day has been and give us a run down of the day ahead. They are always open to talk about issues or improvements in the workplace. I do feel like I am a part of the team. I have always been included in conversations, activities, tasks, etc. Whenever we have extra time all the coworkers are open to talk and help each other clean up without asking.
