Alzheimer's disease impacts more than 5 million Americans living with the disease and 16 million friends and family serving as caregivers. As many as 300,000 individuals with Alzheimer’s are under age 65, meaning they have the early-onset form of the disease. The goal for Longitudinal Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease Study (LEADS) is to understand why some people develop Alzheimer’s disease so early; look for genetic determinants of the disease and its early biomarkers; and track the progression of the disease.
This is a video about the LEADS study and the major goal. This video sums up the overall focus of LEADS and why early onset patients are their main focus
In April add:
your elevator pitch visual (example above). You can put it anywhere on the page, we recommend toward the top to grab the viewer’s attention.
If you attended a poster session, conference, presentation, or published as a result of LHSI, add that information here too!
In April you'll add:
your showcase project summary. Give it a heading like Project Summary or Abstract. Embed your final project file beneath this summary. If you’ve created a separate page to highlight your work, add a link or button to link to the page here to make it easier to find.
your final project. The Prezi and Powerpoint below are examples of where you could put your final project. This project is about your work and can be any of the types of files we talked about at the workshop and in the Canvas module about the showcase.
This year I have been a very compliant team member. I do all of the work that is is given to me on time and there have not been any complaints from my manager about my work ethic and time management. Throughout the year my team role has changed a lot. At first I was only given simple tasks to do such as making 1-2 binders a week. Now I have been given more responsibilities as I shadow the clinicians, make multiple binders throughout the week, do QC, transfer patient files, etc. As I continue the internship I would like to be responsible for more tasks and help contribute to the team more. I would like to be more responsible for different task because I believe I can help the team even more if I am given more small tasks to get done so they have more time to do study visits and transfer and update patient information into all the databases. I would like to continue growing in the leadership space since I was not given big projects to do at my internship site.
My contributions impact the larger project because I help get most of the tedious things out of the way. Making binders and labeling them is a simple more time consuming task; so by doing this this gives the team more time to go through patient files and arrange patient information in all of the databases. They also have a lot of meetings throughout the day so doing the binders, blood kits, QC, labeling, etc, helps them get the bigger tasks out of the way. This helps them assess patients faster and get results quicker too to analyze and inform the patient. One day at my internship site there were a lot of QC binders to check off and sign. My supervisor was very busy with meetings and study visits that day so I got all the QC binders done for her. She was very relieved that all of those were done because they are very time consuming and she had bigger tasks to work on.
One skill I use from above is perseverance. I have become more confident with asking questions to overcome set backs in my work place. A specific example of this is I was having trouble making binders in the fall and I would not ask my supervisor for help. She would have to take mor time out of her busy schedule to correct the work I did since I was not comfortable enough to ask her. However, now whenever I have a minor setback for the smallest things I ask her before completing the task. I have grown with my communication and solving problems since the fall.
One thing I would still like to work on is leadership. I think in the workplace I am not given very many big tasks so I have never lead a project, and have never been in charge of a bigger project. To grow my leadership skill I will look for jobs in which I can lead a whole group and take charge of the bigger tasks.
I have had a lot of things going on this semester so my internship has showed me places where I started to lack. There were come times that I would have to prioritize school over my internship. This showed me how much of a work load I took this semester and how I managed it while doing many other things in the semester.
