My favorite project was Science Fair. I did this experiment in 6th grade where I put dry ice in cold water and hot water to see the effects of both. This was for science class in 6th grade. I also did another Science fair project in 9th grade. For this project I used dry ice and applied it to potato and wheat plants to show the nutrition levels decreasing. This project was mainly done to show that the rising levels of carbon dioxide are lowering nutrition in the crops we are eating. This was an individual assignment and we had to present our work in front judges. For this project I used research, art, and critical thinking skills to complete this project.
During this process I had to obtain dry ice and apply it to whatever variable I was testing. In 6th grade my variable was water so I put one cube of dry ice in cold water and one cube in hot water. I then measured the effect the dry ice had on the water.
What I found through my experiment was that hot water creates the smoky effect you see in cauldrons during Halloween. The hot water created an exquisite smoky effect, whereas, the cold water had no reaction to the dry ice.
From this experience I found that I was really drawn to science and that is what I wanted to pursue in the future. This project is very important to me because it is the reason my love for science sparked and I knew I wanted to be in the STEM field. My love for science kept on growing and it is growing still to this day after I have learned so much.
