What is your professional identity? Describe it using your values, skills, or passions.
Professional identity is something that is very important for an employee to have. This can help manage certain situations and add professionalism to the job. My professional identity consists of showing empathy and care toward individuals. I think showing empathy and care is important so people know you are here to help them and listen to their problems. Being kind to others adds to my professional identity because spreading kindness in the job environment can uplift others spirts and make the place of work more enjoyable to work in. Commitment to personal growth and continuous learning are other aspects that add to my professional identity. Personal growth is one aspect that adds to my want to learn new things. By wanting to continuously learn and grow this makes tasks more enjoyable for me and gives me more skills and values I can apply to my goals.
How does your professional identity complement your internship work? How does it challenge your work?
My professional identity compliments my internship work because showing empathy and care toward children helps build special bonds and trust between me and the children. I use empathy and care with the children at my internship and I found that they come to me very often with their problems and ask me for solutions to them. Being kind to others also complements my job because when I am kind to my co workers or other children, the other children see this and mirror the same behavior. Commitment to personal growth and continuous learning challenge my work because it forces me to get better at my job everyday. I always try to learn new things and with that I get a lot of obstacles that I try to solve on my own. This helps my understanding of how the workplace works and who I can ask for help.
How does knowing your professional identity contribute to your career goal? Has it confirmed the career you've chosen? Has it helped you better understand what careers or industries to explore?
Knowing my personal identity contributes to my career goals because showing empathy and care toward everyone is one main thing I need to help patients in the hospital. For them to trust me and build a relationship with me would be important so the care would be more efficient and it could lead to faster recovery rates. Wanting to learn and grow everyday helps me be more efficient in my care giving and makes me question how I can get better at my job everyday. This hasn't confirmed the career for me to chose but it has cleared the path for new areas of medicine for me to research. This internship has helped maneuver me into a new path of medicine to consider and possibly pursue in. It has helped me realize that there are many types of jobs I can be a part of and that medicine has many areas that I can pursue.
