FRIDAY 3RD OCTOBER 2025
It has been another wonderful week in Year 4, filled with engaging learning and fun experiences!
On Monday, Year 5 Student Leaders along with all the other leaders in the school got to take part in a very special event, our annual Leadership Summit. The students gathered in the Secondary MPH for presentations by Ms Sinead, Mr Nicholas and other school leaders. All of our new Primary leaders were in attendance, and it was a proud day for all concerned.
In English, the children were so proud to see their descriptive writing brought to life as images through AI. We then began our new unit on discussion blogs, and the children have shown great curiosity in exploring the features of this text type.
In Maths, we wrapped up our unit on place value, and the children impressed us with how confidently they applied their knowledge in the end-of-topic test. We are excited to see them carry this progress into our new unit on addition and subtraction.
In Science, the children concluded their work on living things and their environment. They showcased their learning brilliantly in the end-of-unit test, demonstrating both understanding and enthusiasm for the topic.
In Humanities, the children enjoyed learning about fair trade and were fascinated by the famous and traditional foods from Malaysia. Please see the sidebar for details of an upcoming event.
As part of our Humanities unit, 'What’s on the Menu?', we have an exciting day trip planned for the second half of Term 1. This experience will help them deepen their understanding in a fun and memorable way. More details will be shared with you soon!
Wishing you all a restful and happy weekend with your families.
Best wishes,
Ms Lucy and the Year 4 Team

HUMANITIES EXIT POINT
We will be finishing our fun topic “What’s on the Menu?” at the end of this half term. Throughout this unit, the children have been learning about where their food comes from and the journey it takes to reach them. To celebrate, we would love the children to bring in a simple snack or dish from their home country to share with their class on Thursday, 16th October. For example, Korean topokki, Malaysian Kuih or Japanese soba noodles. Each child will be invited to tell their classmates what their dish is and anything else they know about it (perhaps what ingredients are in it, how it is made, the history of it), and if their classmates would like to, they will have the chance to try a small taste if there is enough. Just so we can keep everyone safe, please do not include any foods that may contain nuts. Additionally, please provide a list of the ingredients so we can cater for any allergies or dietary needs (if the ingredients are already listed on the packaging, this is fine). If you have any questions, please ask your child's class teacher.
SWIM GALA
Upper Primary Swim Galas will be held w/c 6th October. Year 4 will be on Tuesday 7th from 8.15 - 10am. Children should come to school with their swim kit under their PE kit. Families and friends and warmly invited to come along and cheer on the children!
PINK DAY EVENTS
Our annual Pink Day fundraiser will take place on Friday 10th October. Donations are welcome for the cake sale - please label any containers you would like returned. Your children are invited to wear pink, and will have the opportunity to visit the PTA run Pink Sale and Bake Sale. Please see this poster for more details.
ISP PINK WALK
Join the ISP Community Pink Walk on Saturday 11 October. Meeting at the Primary Entrance at 8.30am, we will then proceed for a walk around the Desa ParkCity lake. No need to register - just turn up wearing pink with pride!
ROAD SAFETY
A polite reminder that all children who travel to school by bicycle or scooter should wear a helmet. Please can you also remind your children to follow the traffic signals and only cross roads at the pedestrian crossings when the green man is showing.
BIRTHDAY TREATS
We love that the children can celebrate their birthdays with their classmates and share these special moments together. To help keep everyone safe, we kindly ask that any cupcakes, donuts, or other treats brought into school do not contain nuts, as we are a nut-aware school.
ENGLISH
Next week in English, the children will be learning how to generate for and against opinions, plan the structure of a blog, and begin drafting their own introductions and supporting paragraphs.
MATHS
Next week in Maths, the children will take part in a practical number line lesson and will be learning to add two 4-digit numbers with more than one exchange, as well as subtracting two 4-digit numbers with and without an exchange.
SCIENCE
Next week, we will start our new topic, 'Animals Including Humans'. We will begin by looking at why animals have different types of teeth.
HUMANITIES
Next week, the children will design their own pizza with toppings of their choice. They will also research where the ingredients come from.
HOMEWORK –
White reading record books and home reading books. Please sign the reading record book when you have read with your child. Reading books will be changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Today, your child has been given their next set of spelling words, which they have written in their white reading record books. There are columns provided for them to practise using the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check method. Next Friday, they will have a short spelling test on these words in class.
On 8th October, the children will receive their next homework tasks. These will be set on Google Classroom and completed in their homework books. The children should choose the level that feels most appropriate for them. They will use their pink homework book for English and their blue homework book for Maths. This homework will be due on Monday, 13th October.
