FRIDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 2025
We had a great, full week in Year 2!
In English, we explored noun phrases to help us write descriptive sentences, which we then used on our very own acrostic poems. All of this helped us to describe the fantastic hand-made ‘Wild Things’ we created.
In Maths, we focused on comparing and ordering numbers and objects, helping us to understand their relative size and value. We also practised counting in 2s, 5s, 10s, and 3s, spotting number patterns to build a strong foundation for multiplication and division.
In IPC, we continued our unit 'How are You?' by learning about how to keep healthy. Our focus this week was on looking after our teeth. We carried out a fun science experiment using eggshells and different liquids to see which drinks can cause tooth decay. We also practised the best way to brush our teeth and discovered why dental hygiene is so important for a healthy smile.
Finally, after a tough selection process, Mr Matt announced the new Sports Leaders. A huge congratulations to the following children:
2JH: Finley
2SM: Dian
2JQ: Eryssa
2PS: Ridaah
2DK: Edan
2RM: Chloe K
Thank you to all children who expressed an interest in the role. There will be many more leadership opportunities coming up throughout the year. Keep putting yourself forward!
Lastly, we look forward to seeing many of you at the ISP Summer Fair tomorrow, which will take place from 10.00 am until 2.00 pm. Have a great weekend!

ARRIVAL REMINDER
A gentle reminder that, unless they are attending an early CCA or Sports team training, children should not arrive at school before 7.30am, when staff are on duty to supervise them. Thank you.
CCA PICK UP
As shared by Ms Sharon in her Newsletter, dismissal after CCAs is by collection from the Ground Floor Playground by the Primary office. This is for all children unless they have an exit pass or they are on a JPR bus.
ENGLISH
Next week in English, we will focus on subject/verb agreement, helping the children to understand singular and plural. We’ll also practice using the conjunction and to join two sentences, which will make their writing more cohesive and engaging. Additionally, in classes we will create a non-chronological report toolkit, learning which features are important and what is the correct structure.
MATHS
Next week in math, we are kicking off our new unit on addition and subtraction by using our place value knowledge. We will start with a solid review of number bonds to 10, then apply those concepts to fact families and related facts with numbers up to 20. Finally, we will use our understanding of tens to learn number bonds to 100, building a strong foundation for mental math.
IPC
Next week in IPC, we will be learning about the human lifecycle. The children will explore how humans change and grow from babies, to children, to adults, and eventually into old age. We will look closely at the different stages, what makes each stage unique, and how our needs and abilities change as we grow. As part of this, we will also be playing a fun “Guess Who?” game to see if we can spot the differences between Year 2 children as babies compared to how they are now.
PSHE
In PSHE next week the children will be learning about consent, respect and body boundaries. We will discuss what to do when someone does something you don’t like when it is a small problem or a serious problem.
HOME READING
On your child’s Library Day, they will receive their Grey Reading Record along with their three Home Reading Books. Inside the Grey Reading Record, you will find a summarised version of the Home Reading guidance for your ease of reference. On the front, you will also see the link to the reading website, together with your child’s BugClub username and password on the back.
These Home Reading Books are carefully matched to your child’s reading ability and are designed to help them build fluency and enjoyment at home. Please remember to read with your child for 10–15 minutes a day and sign their Reading Record each night.
Books should be brought into school every day so that teachers have the opportunity to listen to your child read and reassess regularly. If you have any concerns about your child's reading level, please add a comment in the reading record, and your class teacher will review it. Please keep in mind, however, that reading is a gradual journey. It is entirely normal for children to remain at a particular level for some time, especially as the texts increase in complexity. Consistent, steady progress is valuable, and every stage contributes meaningfully to your child’s development as a confident and capable reader.
All three books will be changed on your child's Library Day.
Thank you for your continued support in nurturing your child’s love of reading!
