What a joyful and adventure-filled week it’s been in the Early Years Centre! Our Reception children have continued their thrilling journey through We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, braving squelchy mud, swirling snowstorms, and long wavy grass — all through the magic of play and imagination. Meanwhile, in Nursery, the air has been filled with giggles and roars as our youngest learners explored the wonderful world of animal sounds. It’s been a week where learning truly came to life through play!
Nursery Highlights
This week in Literacy, the Nursery children played a fun animal sound guessing game — it was especially funny when our friends made the sounds while we guessed the animals! In Maths they explored shapes more deeply by looking at their properties: is it spikey with corners, or smooth and round all over? We also had fun spotting different shapes in our snacks, around the classroom, and in nature.
Reception Highlights
In Reception this week, the children continued to explore We Are Going on a Bear Hunt. This week, the children created story maps to retell the journey in the correct sequence, helping them to recall key events and understand how a story is structured. They then extended this learning by drawing their own versions in their books, adding details and personal touches to show their understanding of the different parts of the story.
In Maths, the children continued exploring and comparing length and measuring capacity. The children practised using vocabulary such as long, short, tall, big and small to compare and order objects and enjoyed measuring different lengths using cubes, wool and ribbon. They also investigated capacity by learning the language of full, empty and half-full. Through hands-on activities such as filling containers and even pretending to bake bread rolls with sand and water, the children had fun experimenting, predicting and problem-solving while developing their early mathematical understanding.
PE & Swimming
This week in PE, the children met Tommy the Toucan, whose story supported their practice of balancing and throwing skills. Reception children also began working with a partner, developing not only their throwing but also their catching skills. In swimming, Nursery children are becoming more familiar with how their bodies feel in the water and how they can propel themselves across the pool. Reception children have been working hard to maintain a streamlined body position, with or without floating devices, depending on their ability.
Music
In Music this week the children explored "The Old Gray Cat." Students responded to the music by moving in time with its changing tempo. After dramatising the song, they were asked to identify the fastest section and discuss why it might have been quicker than the others. We also incorporated the triangle as part of the musical experience.
Sibling Bus Reminder
Please try to stick to the schedule you indicated at the beginning of the term for the Sibling Bus. If your plans change due to unforeseen circumstances, kindly email both your class teacher and Ms Karen to ensure the information is communicated effectively. Thank you for your cooperation!

Welcome back, EYC families! After a refreshing four-day weekend filled with celebrations for Malaysia Day and the public holidays, our centre has been buzzing with energy, laughter, and joyful learning. Over the past three days, the children have jumped right back into their routines with enthusiasm, exploring new ideas, engaging in creative play and reconnecting with friends and educators. It's been a short but meaningful week and we're excited to share some of the highlights with you!
Nursery Highlights
This week in Literacy, the Nursery children continued to explore the sounds in their environment as they had a fun drumming session with rhythm sticks, listening carefully and imitating sound patterns! In Maths, they explored the world of shapes through the artwork of Wassily Kandinsky, carefully spotting and naming the shapes they could see in his art.
Reception Highlights
In Reception this week, the children began a story adventure with the classic book 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen. The children explored the story; bringing it to life with actions, using movement to signify the different parts of the journey. This helped them to connect with the rhythm and repetition of the story in a fun and active way. To make the story even more exciting, the children went on their very own bear hunt around the EYC!
In Maths, the children explored comparing size. The children were encouraged to use language such as big and small, tall, long and short to describe and compare different objects. During our Teddy Bear Picnic game, they helped to unpack a picnic basket and decided which items belonged to the big bear and which to the small bear. This playful activity supported their understanding of size, ordering, and using mathematical language to explain their thinking.
PE & Swimming
This week, Nursery and Reception worked on their fundamental aquatic skills, such as breath control and maintaining a streamlined position — learning to be “rockets” in the water! In PE, the children met Mary the Monkey, who has been helping them continue to practise their balancing, throwing, and jumping skills.
Summer Fair
Next weekend, Saturday 27th September, will be the first whole school family event at ISP with the Community Fair being hosted on the Secondary Campus. The PTA will be selling tickets, which can be used as payment at the PTA-run stalls, activities and treat stations during the fair. Tickets can be purchased on the day from the Ticket Booth or in advance during our pre-sale. The EYC pre-sale will run Monday 22nd – Friday 26th September at drop-off (8:00 am - 8:30 am) and pick-up (2:15–2:45 pm) in front of the EYC lobby area.
I hope you have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you in the EYC next week!

PE: Nursery and Reception students have continued to explore the PE Shop, trying out different equipment and practising balancing skills through fun and active games.
Swimming: This week marked the start of our swimming programme! All children have been assessed and grouped based on their current swimming abilities. Starting next week, we’ll dive into our aquatic curriculum with tailored instruction to help every child build water confidence and skills.
Music: In Music, we’ve been developing a sense of rhythm and coordination. Through clapping, tapping and stepping to the beat, children are learning to listen carefully and work as a group. One of our favourite activities: “Tap your knees, clap your hands, keep the beat as we chant!”
This week in Reception, we’ve been exploring the theme “All About Me”.
The children have been learning their own names—and their friends’—through songs like “Hickety Pickety Bumblebee, can you say your name for me?”. This has sparked lots of joyful interaction!
They also created personalised name cards, decorating them with mark-making tools, stickers and sequins. Each card was as unique as the child who made it.
In Maths, we’ve been busy with matching and sorting activities. The children enjoyed games that encouraged them to:
Match similar items
Sort objects using their own ideas
Explain their thinking and notice how the same objects can be sorted in different ways
These are all key building blocks for early mathematical reasoning.
In Nursery, we took time this week to practise careful listening. Children tuned into different environmental sounds—from the jungle to a busy restaurant, the city, and even a stormy night. These calming moments help develop focus and auditory awareness.
In Maths, the children explored the concepts of more and less by making collections in two large baskets. They had lots of fun comparing quantities and using mathematical language to describe their observations.
Thank you for another wonderful week of learning and growing together. We’re so proud of how your children are settling in and already making meaningful connections with their classmates, teachers and environment.

As we wrap up our second week, it's been a busy and exciting time for the children, full of exploration, learning and fun! If you haven’t already, don’t forget to check out the class photo albums—the joy on their faces says it all.
Reception Highlights
Reception children have been decorating our “Star of the Day" medals, meeting their specialist teachers and settling into school routines. They’ve also been exploring classrooms, making new friends and learning to work and play together across all five classes.
Nursery Highlights
Nursery students have enjoyed getting to know their new friends through games and name-learning activities. In Literacy, they played a fun sound-guessing game and in Maths, they helped their friend Chippy count carefully (he’s still working on getting it right!).
PE, Swimming & Music
This week, all children met their PE and swimming teachers, Miss Martina and Miss Tiffany. They explored the sports hall and swimming pools, and enjoyed their first PE lessons with fun movement games and equipment from the “PE shop.” Swimming will begin next week for those classes who are timetabled to have a lesson on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
In Music, children explored beats and tempos using castanets, learning the difference between fast and slow.

22nd August 2025
What a wonderful first week we’ve had here in the Early Years Centre! It has been an absolute pleasure to meet all of our returning families and students, as well as to warmly welcome those who are new to our community. I’ve felt instantly at home, thanks to the many kind greetings, warm smiles, and friendly conversations. It’s truly a privilege to be part of such a caring and connected community.
Throughout the week, the EYC has been buzzing with excitement as the children explore our engaging learning environments and begin forming new friendships. The sound of laughter and joy has filled our spaces, with children fully immersed in play and discovery. We’ve had budding artists creating in the Art Atelier, future architects designing in the construction areas, and young zoologists learning to observe and care for a frog found in the EYC garden.
As we all settle into new routines, here are a few important reminders to help keep everyone safe and happy:
Packed Lunches: If you’re sending in a packed lunch, please ensure it is nut-free so it's a safe eating environment for everyone.
Choking Hazards: Grapes and cherry tomatoes should be cut in half to reduce choking risk.
Vircle App: If you’re pre-ordering food through Vircle, please double-check that your child’s class name is correct, as this really helps with smooth distribution during lunchtime.
Swimming Lessons: Next week, we will begin introducing the rules and routines for swimming. Children will not need to bring their swimming kits until Week 3, starting Tuesday, 2nd September.
Coming up next week, we have our Parent Information sessions:
Reception: Monday 25th August 10:30-11:00am: Click Here to join the online Zoom meeting.
Nursery: Monday 25th August 1:00-1:30pm: Click Here to join the online Zoom meeting.
Lastly, if you would like to make a valuable contribution to the ISP community, we are looking for new class representatives, one or two for each class. Please let your class teacher know if you'd be interested in joining the team.
Our ISP PTA is looking for volunteers to help with events throughout our school year. It is especially important we have representatives from our beautiful EYC on that team. Please email Jash (Chair of the PTA), pta@isp.edu.my, if you would be interested in taking part!
It’s been a joyful and inspiring start to the Year, and I look forward to all the learning and adventures still to come.
