FRIDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 2025
Congratulations to all of the Year 3 children who took part in this week's swim meet. It was great to watch you all and see how fast you all were in the pool!
In English, we have been reading the Stone Trolls text to understand the structure of a 'tale of change'. We have been analysing how this is written and have started to think about our own stories of change. All classes performed their retelling of the Stone Trolls on our stage and to another Year 3 class. This was a great chance for them to practise being confident and clear in front of an audience. Something we are focusing on this year is to develop their public speaking skills.
In Maths, we are learning how to use known number bonds and facts to help us with our addition and subtraction calculations. Together, with our place value knowledge, we have been adding and subtracting numbers and tackling word problems.
In Science, we put our Palaeontologist hats on and became fossil hunters, learning about the process that makes fossils and how this relates to our Rocks unit.
In Humanities, we are learning how to create our very first video logs at school in the role of migrants. Our students are in groups where they have brainstormed their push and pull reasons for leaving their origin country and are going to take on these roles to document their 'journeys' in a 'vlog' format.
In Art & Design, we explored how the colour wheel is used within famous works of art. Our Year 3 students continue to amaze us with their artistic knowledge and ability to use 'the language of art' to describe the elements of their artwork. We then painted some incredible colour wheels of our own.
We hope to see you all at the PTA Summer Fair tomorrow, you might even spot some teachers in the Sponge the Teacher!

ARRIVAL TIME
A gentle reminder that, unless they are attending an early CCA or Sports team training, children should not arrive at school before 7.30am, when staff are on duty to supervise them.
A polite request from Year 3 teachers for drop off time. LEGENDARY LEARNERS
Congratulations to :
3CW: Aleeia - showing excellence in ALL her English writing tasks and displaying courage by applying for a leadership role, confidently delivering her speech in front of the class.
3SB: Rayun - for being a critical thinker. Thinking about what you are learning, asking questions to explore topics more deeply.
3LC: Sofia - for bringing a joyful and fun personality to the classroom; for showing lots of enthusiasm for learning; for using her creativity in our Drama activities and on the playground stage!
3MD: Mark - for bravely sharing his ideas with the whole class after talking them through with his partner and trying hard to join in discussions.
3MM: Isa - for showing great effort and focus, impressing us with her expressive Stone Troll actions and careful layering technique in her art.
3SH: Helena - for risk-taking! She always gives everything a go before asking for help, showing real independence and resilience in her learning. Helena also gave a fantastic performance of our story The Stone Trolls, speaking with confidence and expression.
English
Next week in English, we will begin planning our own exciting tales of change, imagining how natural features within the rainforest could have once been trolls many moons ago. We will plan a class tale to model the process, before developing our own versions. We will then begin writing our stories using the setting toolkit to bring the setting to life with vivid description.
MATHS
We will be beginning to add and subtract numbers that cross the tens. This is a skill in which our students will need to use their place value knowledge to help them.
SCIENCE
We will be continuing to learn about Fossils, how they are formed and where we can find them.
HUMANITIES
We will start writing the scripts to our vlogs and rehearsing them before we learn about the recording process.
SPELLING
Children will be bringing home their spellings for the week every Friday to practise at home. Please can they practice in their white book everyday - one column each day using the Look, Cover, Write, Check method. Please can they all bring their white reading logs/spelling book every Friday.
This is a great opportunity for them to also practise the formation of their letters and their handwriting. We have been encouraging the children to think about this every time they write, even if it is a small note or their name.
