THURSDAY 4th September 2025

Although it was a short week, it was certainly a busy and productive one!

Firstly, it was lovely to see so many of you at our Settling-in-Conferences. Thank you for taking the time to meet with us — it was a wonderful chance to connect early in the year and to get to know our new families!

We also had another amazing week of learning! In English, we finally revealed our text for this half term: ''Where the Wild Things Are'' by Maurice Sendak. The children enjoyed learning new vocabulary and beginning to dive into the story together!

In Maths, we deepened our place value knowledge. The children practised partitioning two-digit numbers into tens and ones, as well as reading, writing, and spelling numbers up to 100. Our focus has been on building a strong number sense, which will support them in all areas of Maths this year.

In IPC, we revisited our learning about the five senses: touch, taste, sound, smell, and sight. Our main focus was on the sense of smell. The children carried out a fun science experiment where they had to identify a variety of different scents using only their noses. This encouraged them to think carefully about how smell helps us understand the world and how it links with our other senses.

Finally, in PSHE, we learnt about Merdeka Day and celebrated by making our own flags!

SUN PROTECTION
Please ensure your child brings a labelled drink bottle and hat to school every day.

If your child requires suncream, we kindly ask that you apply it at home before school, as staff are unable to apply suncream during the day.

SWIMMING
Swimming staff have requested that all children bring slippers on their swimming days. This will help ensure quick and easy changes for the children.

Students should arrive in their PE Kit with appropriate trainers on their swimming day. Children will change into their slippers just before their swimming lesson.
2PS: If convenient, students may arrive at school in their slippers on Fridays as this will speed up the process of getting children into the swimming pool.

To make the process even smoother, we recommend that children wear their swimming kit underneath their uniform (if they feel comfortable to do so).

IMPORTANT DATES

Due to Public Holidays, school will be closed on Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th September.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL REMINDERS

Arrival
Doors open at 7:30 a.m. Children are welcome to enjoy supervised play in the ground-floor playground before 7:55am. All children must be in classrooms by 7:55am.

For safety, the Primary Basement Car Park is for Lower Primary only—no drop-off is allowed here.

Dismissal

Year 1: 2:45 p.m.
Years 2 & 3: 2:50 p.m.
Years 4–6: 2:55 p.m.

Children not collected from classrooms will be taken to the Primary Office at 2:55 p.m.

Siblings
Older siblings will always dismiss from the area of their youngest sibling.

CCAs

All CCAs are running from Monday 8th September.

CCA PICK UP
As shared by Ms Sharon in her Newsletter, dismissal after CCAs is by collection from the Ground Floor Playground by the Primary office. This is for all children unless they have an exit pass or they are on a JPR bus.

RECYCLED RESOURCES NEEDED

We are collecting empty toilet paper rolls for a project in Week 4.

Please place any empty toilet paper rolls in the labelled box in the Year 2 Shared Classroom.

FRIDAY 29TH AUGUST 2025

We’ve had a wonderful second week in Year 2! The children are settling beautifully into their new classes and routines, showing more and more confidence each day. It has been lovely to see how much they are enjoying developing their independence—whether it’s getting themselves organised in the morning, making thoughtful choices in their learning, or supporting one another as kind and responsible classmates. Their enthusiasm for learning continues to shine, and it has been a real joy to watch them embrace new challenges with such curiosity and determination.

In English, we began our new unit with an exciting Scavenger Hunt, which had everyone eager to get involved. The children then explored what makes a sentence successful and started building their very own “Every Sentence Toolkit” to help guide their writing. Using the objects and clues they found on the hunt, they created short, clear descriptions, and it was wonderful to see the pride they took in their work.

In Maths, we launched into our Year 2 Place Value unit. The children built on their existing knowledge by exploring numbers to 20 before moving on to counting objects to 100 by making 10s. From there, they began recognising tens and ones and practised using a place value chart to represent and compare numbers. Their growing confidence with these skills has been fantastic to see, and many of them have particularly enjoyed using hands-on resources to support their understanding.

In IPC, we introduced our new unit, How are you? The children had a great time identifying and naming the basic parts of the human body, then drawing and labelling them to show what they had learned. One of the highlights was making earbud skeletons to explore how bones support our bodies—this activity sparked lots of laughter and creativity!

Finally, in Art, we explored two important concepts: line as a basic element of art and pattern as a principle of design. The children then applied these ideas by creating striking patterned artwork using lines, and they were rightly proud of the unique and eye-catching pieces they produced.

Overall, it has been a week full of learning, laughter, and growing independence. Year 2 is already shaping up to be a wonderful year, and we are so proud of how the children are embracing every new opportunity that comes their way.

FRIDAY 22ND AUGUST 2025

A very warm welcome to all our Year 2 children and their families—both existing and new! It’s been wonderful to see familiar faces and meet new ones as we begin the year together. We were delighted to welcome 13 new families during our Welcome New Families event last Friday—thank you for joining us!

Our Class Buddies have been fantastic, especially on the first day, helping our new friends find their feet. Congratulations on your appointments:

It’s been a fantastic first week in Year 2. We’ve spent time getting to know each other, making new friends, learning how to create and maintain a safe, respectful learning environment, developing healthy learning attitudes, and—much to everyone’s excitement—meeting our class pet!

We are so proud of how the children have transitioned into a new year group and settled into new routines. Their positivity, kindness, and curiosity have set us up brilliantly. We can’t wait for another great week ahead!
