More information:
Option 1: Highly Qualified Certificate – Independent Study Test Prep Program
This flexible, self-paced online program helps future paraprofessionals prepare for the ParaEducator Online Exam, a key requirement for working directly with students in reading, writing, and math. Participants will review core academic skills, complete practice activities, and receive support to build confidence for the test. Successful completion of this exam leads to the Highly Qualified Certificate needed to meet state and federal guidelines for paraprofessionals working in Minnesota.
Students are given a ParaEducator Online Training learner account, which remains active for one year after it is created. They complete self-paced learning modules and meet 1:1 with the instructor as needed. Additional synchronous Zoom classes are available 9 -11 am Tuesdays/Thursdays to cover key test prep topics. This option is recommended for individuals who are currently employed by a school or have prior experience—or strong confidence—working with children.
Option 2: Paraprofessional Job Training Class
This online class runs Jan-April, 2026, 9-11 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with optional one on one time Monday/Wednesday. It provides essential training for adults preparing to work as paraprofessionals in Minnesota schools. Participants will explore the core roles and responsibilities of paraprofessionals, with a focus on supporting students and teachers in a variety of classroom settings. Topics include child development, special education, behavior management, and effective strategies for working with diverse learners. The course also offers job search support to help participants take the next step in their career. This is recommended for individuals without prior classroom experience in the United States. It complements—but does not duplicate—the content covered in the Highly Qualified Certificate Independent Study Test Prep Program.
