Basic requirements:
Minimum ABE high intermediate level of English proficiency (score 223 on GOALS test).
Prerequisite: pass the 40 hour Community Interpreter Training class.

This intense class focuses on skills that every interpreter needs to know: consecutive and simultaneous interpretation, sight translation, ways to find best ways to interpret phrases into others, paraphrasing training, fluency building and additional ethical dilemma practice. It ends with a Parrot fluency exam.
Students need to complete the Community Interpreter Training before enrolling in this class.
The average wage for educational interpreters in the Twin Cities Metro is $24 - 34 /hr.
