Quantum Hall effect for breakfast across the Czech Republic!
Jan Kučera from the Czech Metrology Institute (CMI), QuAHMET contact person, along with the General Director of CMI, were interviewed on the national morning program of Czech Television.
They spoke about the 150th anniversary of the Metre Convention, the realization of SI units through quantum standards... and the necessity — and the beauty — of metrology.
Contact persons from the majority of European National Metrology Institutes meet this whole week in Lisbon, Portugal, to attend the meetings of the Subcommittees of the European Association for National Metrology Institutes (EURAMET), Technical Committee for Electricity and Magnetism (TC-EM). The meetings are the best forums of experts to discuss the scientific and technical challenges of present and future electromagnetic metrology. Several guests from worldwide attended the meetings.
In this framework the QuAHMET coordinator, Susmit Kumar, gave a talk on the project progess, and presented a poster on the same topic. The relevance of the research activity towards a new quantized resistance standard is immediately recognized by the audience.
Many thanks to the IPQ – Instituto Português da Qualidade for the effort put in the organisation of this multi-committee meeting!
BIPM150! The global metrology community is coming together in Paris for the World Metrology Day to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Metre Convention. Martina Marzano' s poster "𝘛𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘩𝘮 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵" was selected from hundreds for an oral presentation to the audience!
The progress of QuAHMET were presented at the QUANTUM 2025 Workshop in Torino, Italy. The event is at its 11th edition and attracts about 300 participants. The project poster - strategically placed close to the catering😊 - is raising interest!
The 150th anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention is approaching! Last week the 34th meeting of the Consultative Committee for Electricity and Magnetism (CCEM) was held at the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) in Paris-Sèvres. Susmit Kumar, coordinator of QuAHMET and delegate for Justervesenet, Norway, presented to the international audience the progress of our project to the audience 😊
METROLOGIETAGE is a trade fair devoted to measurement and calibration instruments, with companies from Germany and abroad presenting their latest products. At the fifth edition, 5-6 November 2024 in Munich, Martin Götz, Johanna Lengsfeld, Mattias Kruskopf and Dinesh Patel from PTB presented an update of their activity on resistance standards, including work on topological quantum materials and the quantum anomalous Hall effect in the framework of the QuAHMET project.
Susmit Kumar, the coordinator, presented the project progress at the Contact Persons Meeting of the Technical Committee for Electricity and Magnetism (TC-EM) of EURAMET. TC-EM is composed of 36 contact persons and 3 observers from National Metrology Institutes of most countries in Europe.
The European Researchers' Night (ERN) is the largest science outreach in Europe. During the 2024 edition (27 sep) of the ERN in Lecce (Apulia, Italy), a major event was "Sensors and Metrology: technologies and innovations for scientific research and societal challenges". In this outstanding framework Giuseppe Maruccioand his group of University of Lecce presented to the public the QuAHMET project.
The activity of INRIM towards the goals of the QuAHMET project was presented today to the audience of the VIII Forum Nazionale delle Misure (National Forum for Measurements), Campiglia Marittima (PI), Italy, 12-14 September 2024. 😊
The Forum is a joint event of the two Italian groups dealing with measurement science, the Gruppo Nazionale di Misure Elettriche Elettroniche (National Group for Electrical and Electronic Measurements, hashtag#GMEE) and the Gruppo Nazionale di Misure Meccaniche e Termiche (National Group for Mechanical and Thermal Measurements, hashtag#GMMT). The audience includes scientists from academia and research centers, but is followed also by instrumentation manufacturers.
The QuAHMET project was presented by INRIM to the the audience of the IMEKO 2024 XXIV World Congress (26-29 August 2024, Hamburg, Germany).
The International Measurement Confederation was founded in 1958, has 42 organisation members devoted to the advancement of measurement technology. The 2024 edition of the World Congress has been attended by 1100 colleagues presenting 800 papers. QuAHMET was presented during the poster session of Monday, with curiosity and interest from the participants.
Ritu Rawat and Giuseppe Maruccio, University of Salento, presented the QuAHMET project at the 2024 edition of the International Conference of Magnetism (ICM 2024, 30th June – 5th July 2024, Bologna, Italy) during the poster session.
The Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurement is the most important event of electromagnetic metrology. During the 2024 edition (6-11 July 2024, Denver, Colorado, USA) the QuAHMET project was presented during the poster session, attracting interest from the participants.
Mattias Kruskopf, Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt Germany, presented the results of accurate measurements of the QAHE resistance. The results show that, under proper operating conditions, the quantization error of QAHE in V-BST topological insulator samples can be below parts in 10^9 at zero magnetic field.
The kick-off meeting of QuAHMET, from 19 to 21 June 2024 in Prague, Czech Republc. Thanks to the local organiser, Jan Kucera CMI !
