Beth ydy Llywodraethwr?
Mae llywodraethwr yn rhywun sydd:-
Yn wirfoddolwr;
Yn poeni am addysgu, dysgu a phlant;
Yn cynrychioli rhanddeiliaid sydd a diddordeb allweddol yn yr ysgol, yn cynnwys rhieni, staff, y gymuned leol a’r AALl;
Yn aelod o dîm sy’n derbyn cyfrifoldeb am bopeth y mae ysgol yn ei wneud;
Ag amser i’w roi i gyfarfodydd a digwyddiadau eraill pan fo angen;
Yn fodlon dysgu;
Yn gallu bod yn ffrind sy’n cefnogi’r ysgol ond sydd hefyd yn gallu cadw golwg feirniadol ar sut y mae’r ysgol yn gweithio ac ar y safonau a gyflawnir;
Yn ddolen gyswllt rhwng rhieni, y gymuned leol, yr AALl a’r ysgol.
Cynhelir cyfarfod o’r Corff Llywodraethol o leiaf unwaith y tymor a threfnir cyfarfodydd ychwanegol o’r is-bwyllgorau yn dymhorol neu yn ôl y galw. Mae gan bob llywodraethwr hefyd ddiddordeb pynciol arbennig, a gall ymweld â’r ysgol neu sgwrsio gyda’r athro sy’n gydlynydd pwnc er mwyn deall a chefnogi’r addysg.
Beth yn union mae Llywodraethwyr yn ei wneud?
Cytuno ar amcanion a gwerthoedd yr ysgol
Cytuno ar bolisïau yn ymwneud â nodau, dibenion ac ymarferion yr ysgol
Dylanwadu ar a chymeradwyo Cynllun Gwella Ysgol a monitro dyraniad a gwariant
cyllideb yr ysgol
Sicrhau bod y cwricwlwm cenedlaethol yn cael ei ddysgu a bod digon o staff ar gael i’w ddysgu
Monitro ac adolygu cynnydd yr ysgol
Sicrhau bod anghenion disgyblion unigol yn cael eu cwrdd, gan gynnwys anghenion ychwanegol
Recriwtio a Dewis Staff
Rhoi gwybodaeth i rieni am yr ysgol
Cynhyrchu a monitro Cynllun Datblygu Ysgol yn flynyddol a chynlluniau gweithredu gwelliant yn dilyn arolwg ysgol

What is a governor?
A governor is someone who:-
Is a volunteer;
Cares about teaching, learning and children;
Represents all stakeholders with a key interest in the school, including parents, staff, the local community and the LEA;
Is part of a team which accepts responsibility for everything a school does;
Has time to commit to meetings and other occasions when needed;
Is willing to learn;
Is able to act as a friend who supports the school but is still able to cast a critical eye upon how the school works and the standard it achieves;
Acts as a link between parents, the local community, the LEA and the school.
The Governing Body meets at least once a term and additional sub-committee meetings are held every term or as necessary. Each governor also has a subject area of interest, and he/she can visit the school or discuss with the teacher subject co-ordinator in order to understand and support the way that subject is taught.
What exactly do Governors do?
Agree the aims and values of the school
Agree policies relating to the aims, purposes and practices of the school
Influence and approve the School Improvement and monitor the allocation and expenditure of the budget
Make sure the national curriculum is taught and there is sufficient staff to teach it
Monitor and review the school’s progress
Ensure individual pupils’ needs are met, including additional needs
Recruitment and Selection of Staff
Give parents information about the school
Produce and monitor the yearly School Development Plan and action plans for improvement following school inspections
Agree and monitor the targets set by the school.
Support the day-to-day operational decisions taken by the headteacher
Maintain positive links with the local community
Promote the effectiveness of the governing body
