The Welsh Language Sabbatical Scheme has a central role to play in developing practitioners' Welsh skills and their ability to teach through the medium of Welsh. The Scheme provides Welsh language methodology and training for teachers and classroom assistants in primary and secondary schools throughout Wales.
The Scheme gives practitioners the opportunity to do the following:
improve their Welsh skills.
ensure they have the awareness and confidence to use language teaching methodologies.
learn subject specific terminology.
The scheme is open to practitioners currently working in Wales. Requests from supply staff may be considered subject to certain conditions.
All courses are free. The Welsh Government will also pay a grant towards the costs of supply staff and reimburse any additional travel costs incurred by people taking part in the scheme.
More details can be found here about the Welsh in a Year course.
