ABOUT ME

Kingwood Middle School

6th Grade Math

I have been teaching for 7 years and have taught mathematics from 5th through 8th grades, most recently I have worked with 6th graders as a math interventionist. I enjoy helping students find the patterns and A-ha moments of mathematics that helps to make it click for them. I previously taught an introductory coding class for 6th grade students at our campus to provide them with a basic understanding of keyboarding, computer languages, and computational thinking skills.

My technology journey began as I was a student who enjoyed learning new tools and resources for online users and that continues into my classroom today. My personal philosophy on technology is that we must work with our students to build their curiosity and skills relative to technology tools for educational and professional purposes. Though they have grown up with readily available technology, they are all not necessarily fluent in technology. I love seeing students and teachers fail at technology together as it creates a common ground for moving forward and improving problem solving skills for both parties.

I have a passion for creating unique and out-of-the-box experiences for my students by finding creative ways to explore a variety of topics. I have painted a 40' coordinate plane on the field of our campus to teach our students about graphing, invited community members to partner with our coding students to help with an App design project, and brought the medical field into our classrooms as we performed "Order of Operations" on patients with our math students.
