Damaged/falling apart - recycle on site (Cut off and throw out plastic jackets on hardcover books; tear off and throw away laminated covers on paperback books.)
Library Books in Good Condition: add to your Little Free Library section, give away to students or staff, or box up and send to the HSD Resource Center to be re-sold.
Old Textbooks - Textbooks that are falling apart, very old, and/or out of adoption can be recycled. Check with Vanessa or Colleen before recycling.
Novel Sets - Put in your Little Free Library section, offer to staff for their classroom libraries, give away to students and families, donate to a local charity, or send to the Resource Warehouse.
Not all schools can recycle textbooks/hardcover books on site. It all depends on which recycling company is assigned to you school.
Check this list to see if you can recycle on site or not.
If you cannot recycle on site, reach out to Colleen and Vanessa.
Check the circulation data. Has the book been checked out in the past two years? Does it meet any of the MUSTIE or FRESH qualities? Remove book from library collection by scanning the barcode in the "Update Copies" page in Destiny
Make sure to select the "track as weeded" option
Use Withdrawn stamp to cover up any library information found in the book.

1. When weeding, please pay special attention to older books on local history. Many of those are rare and irreplaceable, and should be kept in our district collection.
2. Send the book to Colleen at the HSD Resource Warehouse.
