Library collections should reflect the diversity within each HSD community
Library programming incorporates district initiatives such as Career and College Pathways and social-emotional learning
Library staff welcome all people and work hard to accommodate all teachers and learners
Please note:
Staff may not exclude titles due to conflicting personal beliefs.
Collection
We include books with diverse protagonists in our collections and put them on display
We include positive and diverse representations of: race, ethnicity, gender, disability, national origin, gender representation, LGBTQIA+ identity, and socio-economic status.
We display books in other languages in an easily visible area so students and staff know they are available
We create inclusive displays throughout the year
We arrange the library space so that students with limited mobility can access all library resources
Relationship Building
We greet the teacher and students at the door
We use positive body language.
We learn students names
We honor our students' heritage by taking the time to learn proper name pronunciation
We are sensitive to the differing needs of our students
Example: giving an extra book to a student who lives between homes
