Shape

Shapes are identified by their separation from a background by an outline or contrast. A shape is a closed line. It is flat [2 dimensional].

The following activities ask you to use coloured paper - you may need to be creative if you dont have this at home. Use paint to colour paper, use food colour as a water colour dye on white paper, use magazines and look for large areas of colour, use newspaper, Use coffee and tea to stain paper different tones of browns. You can also look at this video on using pantry items to stain white papers. You can also use fabric or felt if you have this at home.

Types of shapes:

Shapes can be categorized into three types

  • Organic

  • Geometric

  • Symbolic

Shapes occur

•naturally [trees etc] or

•Man made [buildings/structures]
