Activity Mark Making

Use whatever drawing material you have access to, to experiment with making drawing marks. Use the image to the right as inspiration and think about the various lines discussed in the videos above and use these in your mark making. Fill a whole page with various marks. [either random or grid like the example]

ACTIVITY

Your task is to use a variety of mark making to draw your own version of Vincent Van Goghs "Starry Night"

look back at your mark making experiments from activity 2.1 and keep this in mind as you draw. Try and use a variety of directional line, different thicknesses of line and length. [You dont have to use colour]

An example is shown below.

continuous line drawing

read about what continuous line drawing is and then watch the video about an artist who only draws with one line!

Activity Continuous line

You are going to need help from a family member for this task. Have a family member [or friend] place an object under a towel or cloth that you have not seen. Place your hand into the bag and have a feel of the object inside.

Now place your pen/pencil on the page. You cannot take your pencil off the page. You have 2 minutes to draw what you can feel! an ecample of a set of keys is shown

ACTIVITY - working from life [someone in front of you] or a mirror/photograph/selfie complete a continuous line portrait of the face you are looking at. change to another person and repeat your portraits on the same page until you fill up the entire space like the example shown. allow them to overlap.

Continuous line Botanical drawings

Using a combination of continuous and blind continuous lines drawings, fill an A4 page with plant drawings from the garden and supplied pot plants. each drawing should be at least palm size and can overlap each other. These drawings will be used for further activities throughout the course, so the more you do the better!!
