This video shows you how to break down an object onto basic shapes to start sketching and adding value.
When you start a drawing, remember to KEEP IT LIGHT TILL ITS RIGHT!
watch the video and then apply the techniques to the activities below the examples.
Using your selected bird, create a series [2-3] of bird head drawings using a range of techniques to focus on mark making, value and shape.
FOCUS ON: shape and texture. Making eyes look real
Extension: lay a wash of colour watercolor before drawing on top of it. Experiment with black pencil and white pencil for highlights
Now work on a full bird drawing to complete a detailed tonal drawing of your selected bird/s. Complete at least 1 drawing [try for 2].
FOCUS ON: value and form, texture [markmaking] and the eyes
extension: work on grey or brown paper, or colour washes and use black/white pencil
ENSURE YOU ARE USING A FULL RANGE OF VALUE FROM BLACK TO GREYS TO WHITE . CREATE CONTRAST. YOU CAN SEE BY THE VALUE SCALE BELOW THAT EACH OF THESE DRAWINGS HAVE 7-8 RANGES OF VALUES!!
