WELCOME TO 09ARP.
AKO - to learn
During year 9 Art, you will investigate line, form, colour and shape through the theoretical and practical research of established practice. The outcome of the course will be a series of experimental and resolved artworks that will be used for display using either Natural Environments or portraits.
The intention of this course is to develop confidence using a wide range of media, as well as introducing you to media and techniques that you may not have experienced at Intermediate. By the end of the course, you should have found a technique that you can use to achieve success.
You should be developing an understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses within the course and will receive regular verbal feedback about how to use your strengths to achieve success.
By the end of the course, you should feel a benefit from analysing your own and others work and start to understand how using ideas, methods and techniques founded in established practice can help advance your own learning.
Assessment Waihanga - create
This is ongoing and used during a unit to provide you with informal feedback on your progress.
Summative Assessment is used to measure your overall performance in order to determine your level of achievement. Assessment will be in the form of completed artworks called focus studies [your visual diary of experiments will be used as extra evidence when needed]
Time in art goes quickly if you fall behind you are expected to catch-up during your own time! the classroom will be available to you during school and you are able to take work home
Lastly and importantly...
*This is not a race to see who finishes first, focus not just on quantity but quality as well. Art is about being expressive, not necessarily perfect!
•Never be afraid or shy to ask your teacher for ANYTHING, whether you have none, little or a lot of experience - skill and understanding can always be developed.
General concepts that are used to make an assessment grade:
Students show in their work:
An understanding of concepts and application of procedures and processes, and purpose of artworks.
Neatness, precision and care in their application of skills
Creativity, originality and expression of ideas and imagination
Effort - using class time wisely, ensuring focus studies are done to best of ability and completed on time.
