P.A.V.E.

for Youth

the goal of P.A.V.E. for Youth, with P.A.V.E. standing for political awareness and voting engagement, is to increase the number of 18-year-olds registering to vote and implement more education in politics and civics at HHS.  At Holliston High School, survey results show that there is a large amount of eligible voters who don't know if they are going to vote in the upcoming election or don't know how.  Furthermore, there is no civics course offered at the high school that functions on a yearly basis.

About Me

My name is Roy Holmes and I am currently a sophomore at Holliston High School. I am passionate about politics and youth engagement which is why I chose to make my project about voter registration and civic participation among young people. I am always looking for new ways to be an activist but often feel limited by my age and resources. I hope that through my project young people like me will feel supported and seen in their contributions to politics and civic duty.

Community Need

In the United States, there is disproportionate involvement and representation in politics based on defining factors like race, education, and economic status. Studies show there has been little improvement in engaging nonvoters between the 2020 and 2024 elections. Legislation continues to restrict the education of political and/or social topics across the country. It is more important now than ever to educate young people about the current state of politics and promote participation in order to be the change we want to see in the world.
