Education for The World

About us!

Hello! Our names are Saachi and Isabelle and we are students at Holliston High School taking a class called Service Learning. The goal of the class is to create a difference through one of the UN's global goals however you choose. We chose the topic of education because we truly believe it is one of the strongest powers anyone can have. We decided to work together because our views aligned, and we are also very close friends.

Our Project

Our project is called Education for the World. It was started because our group believes that education is one of the most important things a person can have. Access to a quality education is unfortunately not as internationally granted as we'd like it to be. In 2019, there were about 58.4 million kids who were not in primary school, many of whom are from Africa and South Asia. This number gets higher and higher as the grades do. In total, overall grade levels, about 258 million kids are not in school. The quality of education worldwide has declined, and in need of improvement, with many people coming out of school not knowing enough to prosper, especially following the Covid-19 pandemic. We aspire to close this gap, and help as many people as possible attain a valuable education they can utilize to better themselves and the world.

Our Goals  & Where To Find Us

So far in our project, we have done fundraising and supporting other charities. We tried to set up a workshop where we go and help out elementary teachers with their kids if the kids were having trouble. Unfortunately that plan did not go through. We decided our next plan of action was to organize a clothing drive and bring in a guest speaker: our community partner Norah Zoummar.

We have an Instagram! Follow @edu.fortheworld if you're interested in our cause!

Founder of Neshlyn Children's Foundation, Norah Zoummar, came to speak to Holliston High students about her village in Namwenda, Uganda.

We collected clothes from neighbors and friends and delivered it to Norah who will take them all soon to Uganda and give them to the people.

We collected 16 bags of clothing, and still have more to collect and give. Thank you to those who donated!

About our Partner!

We have partnered with Neshlyn's Children's Foundation. They are a certified non-profit charity whose creator is a singer/activist located around Ashland, MA. Her name is Norah Zoummar and she is from Uganda. Growing up there, she saw how terrible the quality of education, and life in general, was. As soon as she was able to she started this charity, which focuses on sending children from underprivileged villages to private schools until the foundation can build its own school. It costs 20 dollars per semester, or there is an option to sponsor an older kid through middle school and high school, which while more expensive is 100% worth it. The organization gives each kid three meals a day when they show up, as well as other basic needs they may be lacking, such as clothing and shoes. The foundation has its own Instagram as well, called @neshlyn_childrens_foundation. Norah recently appeared before the governor of Massachuesetts to talk about her charity, and the progress it has made so far, and with some help it will make even more.
