Planning Department Outreach Programme

The PSHE KLA held a series of events on sustainable development in Hong Kong in November. We were honoured to invite the Planning Department to exhibit informative boards in the Activity Center and their Mobile Vehicle in the Amphitheatre. Mr Kelvin Chan, an urban planner from the Planning Department gave us a fruitful talk about the Energising Kowloon East Project.

The informative boards in the Activity Center and the interactive Mobile Vehicle in the Amphitheatre displayed the strategies adopted to achieve sustainable development in Hong Kong. The boards introduced how different new towns such as Yuen Long, Tsueng Kwan O and Sha Tin had been developed. Some future town plans proposed or in the construction process, such as the Kwu Tung North and the Kwun Tong Center redevelopment projects, were also shown. We learnt from the boards and then answered some questions to get a small treat. The interactive Mobile Vehicle provided us with different games about urban planning in Hong Kong. We played the roles of urban planners by designing sustainable cities within 3 minutes. Both junior and senior schoolmates actively participated in this activity.

In the assembly, we gathered in the school hall and listened to a talk hosted by Mr Kelvin Chan. The Energising Kowloon East Project covers places from Kwun Tong to Kai Tak areas, and aims to make the area into another prominent business district in Hong Kong. Some of the areas that have been developed are the Kwun Tong Promenade and the CIC-Zero Carbon Park in Kowloon Bay. The talk was informative and fruitful. We learnt more about East Kowloon since most of us live on Hong Kong Island.
