Debate 2022-23
Debate is an exhilarating crucible that tests the limits of teamwork, oral proficiency, and critical thinking. Our English Debate team is on a quest to conquer them all! While it's unfortunate that face-to-face debate competitions couldn't make a grand comeback this year, our indomitable spirit pushed us to keep honing our skills and perfecting the art of debate. Through countless training sessions and thrilling mock debates, our students have transformed into masters of meticulous arguments, captivating rebuttals, and insightful debate analysis. The dedication and passion they've poured into this pursuit is truly awe-inspiring!
With a vibrant squad of 35 talented members, our Thursday afternoons have been transformed into epic debating showdowns. We've delved into a multitude of mock debates, taken on the role of judges, and immersed ourselves in topic-specific training workshops. But it doesn't end there! Outside of regular school hours, we've seized the opportunity to put our honed skills to the test in inter-school competitions. From the prestigious Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Championships (HKSSDC) to thrilling contests like Junior Secondary School Debate Competitions (Junior SDC) and the eye-opening World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships (WIDPSC), we've engaged in electrifying exchanges with debaters from around the globe. Our remarkable achievements, such as being crowned Champions in both the Junior and the Senior division of the HKSSDC in Term 1 Finals and securing the top spot in the break rounds at the WIDPSC, have truly marked the pinnacle of this enriching year of debate.
We couldn't be more thrilled to have the unwavering guidance of Ms.Cathlina Lu, Ms. Sophie Ip and Ms. Vanessa Ma in this journey of pursuing excellence. The tireless efforts and invaluable support from our coaches have been nothing short of incredible. From early-day gatherings to late-night reminder text messages, they've enlightened and inspired us every step of the way.
As we savor the fruits of our labor, our hearts brim with anticipation for the next chapter. We yearn to sharpen our skills and eloquence in argumentation, all under the exceptional guidance of our beloved teacher coaches. And guess what? We're looking for new companions to join us on this thrilling journey! We extend a heartfelt invitation to you, to step into the enthralling world of debating. Debate 2021-22
Debating is a challenging but rewarding activity. This school year of English Debate is no exception. Amid obstacles throughout the learning process, in particular the inconvenience caused by school suspension, determination and perseverance demonstrated by every member of the team made our endeavors and aspirations come to fruition.
Our sessions could not have been this engaging and rewarding without the support and active participation of our full squad of 37 members. Every Thursday afternoon, students undertook the full debating experience, which included participating in multitudinous mock debates, serving as judges and joining topic-specific training workshops. Beyond school hours, members got the opportunity to participate in inter-school competitions and put the skills acquired in training sessions to the test. Our engagement in a variety of tournaments, ranging from the Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Championships (HKSSDC), to student-led contests such as the Hong Kong International Debating Challenge (HKIDC) and International Linkbate Debating Championships (LDC), allowed members to interact and undergo stimulating exchanges with debaters across the globe. Awards such as the HKSSDC Grand Finals 1st Runner-up and 1st in the break rounds at the HKIDC mark the perfect ending for an enriching year of debate.
This year, we were delighted to welcome Ms. Cathlina Lu and Mr. Dennis Lam as our new coaches for junior form members, while Ms. Joan Leung continued in her post as the Head Coach of the team and the supervisor for senior form members. Their efforts and guidance are truly appreciated. From early-day gatherings to late-night reminders, progress could not have been made without their unfailing enlightenment and support.
While enjoying the harvest, we look ahead to the next spring. We wish to further enhance our abilities and eloquence in argumentation under the exceptional guidance of our teacher coaches. The new year would be even better with new companions. We sincerely invite you to the world of debating, which is guaranteed to be a testing, mesmerizing, and fulfilling journey.
